The Adaptive Fitness Coach, reporting to the Program Coordinator of Adaptive Fitness, will provide one on one support to our members in the Adaptive Fitness Program. This program targets individuals with severe spinal cord injury or neuro trauma, focusing on structured exercise routines with adaptive fitness equipment. Responsibilities include working one on one with our clients at the Oak Square location in Brighton, supporting scheduling of client’s day to day, and keeping detailed records of performance for everyone. They'll tailor safe, effective regimens for each member and provide high quality engagement to ensure smooth integration into our fitness facilities

**Key Functions/Responsibilities:**

In accordance with the policies, by-laws and constitution of the YMCA of Greater Boston, the Adaptive Fitness Coach will support the successful execution of the YMCA of Greater Boston’s strategic imperatives to be a charity, partner, and employer of choice for years to come. The Adaptive Fitness coach will create a transformative Y Experience that builds loyal members, energizes employees and volunteers, inspires donors and stimulates growth and innovation.

The Adaptive Fitness Coach will drive success in the following areas of responsibility to support a strong Y

**Experience**

-  Performance Achievement: Accountable for the program's performance through high engagement witheach member as they come into the facility. Accountable for detailed records of each client to ensure asafe and effective fitness experience.

-  Customer Service and Experience -- Create a welcoming environment for members, guiding them throughthe program and integrating them into our fitness floors.

-  Direct Service -- Primary job responsibility to engage with members through the program sites. AssistProgram Coordinator in building out exercise routines for each participant and ensure compliance andsupport for everyone. Building connections and communities to increase member retention andengagement

-  Customer Service and Experience –Respond immediately to member feedback and any center concerns.

-  Operational Effectiveness -- Ensures YMCA of Greater Boston’s standards of excellence around cleanlinessand safety are met. Communicate and elevate any safety concerns, facility or equipment maintenanceissues to appropriate team members.

-  Member Engagement – Utilizes Appointment King to schedule individuals for sessions and ensure they arecared for and supported on each visit. Candidate is willing to adjust to additional scheduling platforms tosupport members in the program.

-  Collaboration -- Work in a collaborative manner with other departments and Center leadership.

**Education/Experience**

**Skills, Knowledge & Expertise**

-  Associates or Bachelor’s degree in exercise science, or a related field from an accredited college or

university.

-  Active, Nationally Accredited Personal Training Certification

-  Either have/be willing to obtain an ACSM Adaptive Exercise Certification

-  CPR/AED, First Aid, and Emergency Oxygen certifications

-  At least 1 years’ experience in physical therapy, exercise physiology, or experience with adaptive

populations.

-  Knowledge and experience of training for adaptive populations

-  Excellent knowledge of computers, MS Office (Word and Excel) and Internet Explorer.

-  Strong interpersonal skills and the ability to work effectively as part of a team.

-  Ability to handle multiple tasks, work independently, problem solve and possess effective time

management skills.

-  Ability to learn quickly and adapt to changing environments.

-  Knowledge of best practices related to adaptive fitness programs

**Key Responsibilities**

**ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS**

- Supports the Mission and Vision of the YMCA and builds community.

- Builds a personal training clientele to include one-on-one and small group training.

- Demonstrates clear explanations and exercise material with proper form and technique.

- Develops positive relationships with members and provides motivational support and guidance.

- Participates in Trainer Education Lectures for members.

- Tracks client progress.

- Follows up with each client in a timely manner and on a regularly scheduled basis.

- Meets or exceeds monthly personal training session goals as determined by the Health and Wellness Director.

- Actively promotes personal training services to members through outreach, demonstrations, and events.

- Operates all equipment properly and promptly reports any problems.

- Availability to work shifts on gym floor as support staff as needed.

- Follows all YMCA policies, rules, regulations, and procedures, including emergency procedures. Completes incident and accident reports, as necessary.

- Attends necessary trainings and meetings, as scheduled. Participates in YMCA-sponsored training and professional development opportunities to enhance skills and maintain certifications.

**Requirements**

**Skills, Knowledge and Expertise**

- Two or Four-year degree in Exercise Science or related field preferred but not required.

- Nationally accredited certification (preferred: NSCA, ACSM, NASM)

- Current CPR/AED and First Aid certification

- Possess an enthusiastic, passionate, friendly, and ambitious personality

- Demonstrated ability to perform fitness assessments and to teach progressive exercise programs that are focused on member’s goals

- Ability to instruct and observe participants using proper exercise techniques

- Ability to create and monitor safe and effective exercise programs for individuals, as well as recognize a member’s potential and limitations

- Ability to sell the value and life changing experience of personal training to members

- Ability to use member management software to track clients and communicate effectively.

- Demonstrates a commitment to creating a welcoming and inclusive environment for members of all backgrounds, abilities, and experiences.

- Must be reliable, dependable, flexible, and adaptable

- Possess mature judgment and sound decision-making.?
