About The Role The Institutional Events Marketing Manager at Cengage plays a vital role in supporting the planning, development, and execution of marketing events that enhance brand visibility, foster engagement, and generate demand for Cengage products and services. This position involves managing multiple aspects of event lifecycle, including conceptualization, audience targeting, logistics coordination, and on-site execution. The manager collaborates closely with internal teams such as marketing, sales, and product development, as well as external vendors, to deliver high-quality, impactful events aligned with strategic marketing and go-to-market objectives. The role requires a creative and detail-oriented professional capable of designing compelling event experiences, analyzing performance metrics, and continuously optimizing event strategies to maximize ROI. The ideal candidate will demonstrate strong organizational skills, effective communication, and the ability to manage multiple projects simultaneously in a fast-paced environment. Qualifications
Bachelor’s degree in Marketing, Communications, Business, or a related field, or equivalent professional experience.
Minimum of 2+ years of experience in event marketing, field marketing, or a related area with a proven track record of managing complex events.
Working knowledge of event marketing and experiential marketing concepts, including planning, coordination, and on-location activities.
Strong organizational skills and meticulous attention to detail.
Excellent written and verbal communication skills.
Ability to lead multiple workstreams and resolve issues efficiently.
Experience coaching and preparing speakers, including external and executive roles.
Proficiency in budget management, resource allocation, and ROI analysis.
Ability to collaborate effectively with cross-functional teams and external vendors.
Willingness to travel approximately 30%, especially during peak event periods.
Responsibilities
Collaborate with marketing, sales, product teams, and executive leadership to develop comprehensive event strategies, including themes, content, speaker selection, and onsite management.
Design engaging and audience-focused event experiences that align with organizational goals and brand standards.
Approve event themes, content, and program formats to maintain consistency and quality across all events.
Measure and analyze event success through attendance, engagement, lead generation, revenue impact, and customer satisfaction metrics.
Analyze post-event data to identify successes and areas for improvement, applying insights to future planning.
Implement assigned aspects of marketing events such as conferences, field events, sponsored activities, and hosted experiences.
Develop event concepts, program directions, and speaker lineups, ensuring alignment with strategic objectives.
Coordinate with presenters and moderators to ensure effective preparation and attendee engagement.
Lead brand experience initiatives at Cengage-hosted and sponsored events to maximize impact and visibility.
Support event participation decisions, including selecting suitable events, determining attendee profiles, and defining representation strategies.
Manage event talent, production activities, and onsite staffing, ensuring smooth execution.
Oversee budget planning, resource allocation, and spend optimization, ensuring compliance with organizational policies.
Partner with finance, legal, and event execution teams to ensure accurate tracking, reporting, and regulatory compliance.
Monitor onsite operations, including staffing, flow management, and follow-up activities, ensuring seamless event delivery.
Manage relationships with third-party vendors such as speakers, AV providers, and production teams, resolving issues proactively.
Execute short-term assignments independently within established procedures, under regular supervisory review.
