About The Role
Motional is seeking an experienced Staff Front End Engineer to join its Web Visualization Tooling team. In this pivotal role, you will be instrumental in developing sophisticated web tooling and visualization systems that enhance the feedback loop for machine learning engineers and improve the performance and adaptability of autonomous vehicle systems. You will lead the design, development, and scaling of a modern frontend ecosystem utilizing technologies such as React, TypeScript, and Vue. Your work will directly impact the usability and effectiveness of internal tools used across various teams, including ML, UX, data services, and data mining. You will collaborate closely with cross-functional teams to ensure that the tooling aligns with real-world workflows, delivering mission-critical UI systems that support complex, data-heavy workflows. This role offers the opportunity to work in a fast-paced, product-driven environment where rapid iteration and innovation are highly valued. As a senior contributor, you will also mentor junior engineers, promote best practices, and drive technical excellence across the organization.

Qualifications
- Proven expertise in React, TypeScript, and modern frontend architecture
- Proficiency in Vue.js
- Strong understanding of UX principles and a passion for creating user-friendly applications
- Experience designing and implementing complex, data-heavy visualization tools
- Ability to work independently with high ownership and accountability
- Excellent interpersonal and mentoring skills
- Strong technical documentation and design habits
- Experience collaborating directly with customers to identify needs and deliver solutions
- High aptitude for learning new technologies and organizational skills
- Desire to build scalable, maintainable, and high-performance frontend systems
Responsibilities
- Establish and promote cross-team standards and best practices for web development
- Lead collaboration efforts across multiple teams to ensure timely and effective delivery of projects
- Architect and scale a modern frontend ecosystem using React, TypeScript, and Vue
- Work closely with ML, UX, data services, and data annotation teams to develop aligned tooling solutions
- Design and develop mission-critical UI systems used by internal stakeholders
- Create intuitive, data-rich interfaces for complex workflows
- Optimize frontend performance, scalability, and maintainability
- Ship features rapidly and iterate based on user feedback and testing
- Mentor junior engineers and promote best practices in frontend development
- Document technical designs and ensure code quality standards are met
