About the role

Lab Project Manager
Optomi, in partnership with a leader in the entertainment industry is seeking a Project Manager to support a cutting-edge Studio Lab environment. The Project Manager will support the implementation and execution of a hands-on innovation lab showcasing emerging production technologies.
This role requires managing multiple short-duration R&D efforts while also coordinating across trade and union-based teams contributing to physical space builds. This is a highly collaborative role requiring strong communication, adaptability, and the ability to create clarity across loosely structured and highly interdependent workstreams.
Location: Hybrid in Los Angeles, CA (4x onsite)
Type: 24-Month Contract (W2 Only)
Pay: $65/hour on W2
Required Qualifications:
  • 5+ years of project management experience in technology environments
  • Bachelor’s degree required
  • Experience managing complex, interdependent systems and cross-functional teams
  • Strong understanding of Agile methodologies, with flexibility to adapt outside rigid frameworks
  • Experience using tools such as JIRA, Airtable, or similar project tracking platforms
  • Proven ability to manage backlogs, track deliverables, and identify blockers
  • Strong communication skills with the ability to navigate different team dynamics
  • Ability to operate effectively in ambiguous, fast-moving environments
  • Experience leading Agile project activities across full lifecycle
  • Ability to manage multiple concurrent workstreams

Preferred Qualifications:
  • Experience in R&D or innovation-focused environments
  • Experience working with trade, union, or physical build teams
  • Exposure to high-visibility, deadline-driven projects
  • Familiarity with AI/ML, XR, or cinematic/production technologies

Key Responsibilities:
  • Manage multiple short-duration projects (typically 1–2 months)
  • Break down workstreams into actionable tasks and track progress
  • Maintain backlogs, task lists, and lightweight planning structures
  • Identify blockers and drive resolution in a fast-paced environment
  • Facilitate key Agile activities (standups, sprint planning, retrospectives, etc.) as needed
  • Provide structure without enforcing rigid Scrum ceremonies
  • Coordinate across multiple trade groups and independently managed teams
  • Track dependencies related to physical build work (e.g., electrical, fabrication, installation)
  • Aggregate progress updates without directly managing trade schedules
  • Ensure alignment and communication continuity across all stakeholders
  • Navigate workflows carefully within structured trade and union environments
