About The Role
We are seeking a highly skilled Mechanical Design Engineer to join our dynamic team at Adams Thermal Systems. In this role, you will be responsible for creating and implementing customer-driven designs with minimal supervision, ensuring that all projects meet technical specifications, quality standards, and cost targets. You will collaborate with cross-functional teams to analyze structural integrity, specify suitable materials, and lead design failure mode and effects analyses (FMEA). As a technical liaison, you will support sales initiatives and nurture relationships with key customers, providing expert guidance and technical support throughout the product lifecycle. The role requires flexibility to travel domestically and internationally to support manufacturing, prototype development, and customer engagements. The successful candidate will demonstrate strong leadership skills, technical expertise, and the ability to manage multiple projects efficiently.
Qualifications
The ideal candidate will possess a Bachelor of Science in Mechanical Engineering or a related field, with a minimum of three to five years of design experience within an OEM manufacturing environment. Candidates should have at least three years of hands-on experience with parametric CAD software, preferably Creo, and a solid understanding of GD&T principles. Experience in sheet metal design, weldments, and heat exchanger products, including brazing processes, is highly desirable. The candidate must be a self-starter capable of working independently, with excellent organizational and project management skills. A comprehensive understanding of manufacturing processes, tolerance analysis, and design for manufacturability/assembly (DFM/DFA) principles is essential. Additionally, proficiency in using Windchill or PDM Link for change management and CAD file storage is required.
Responsibilities
  • Responsible for creating and implementing customer-driven designs with minimal supervision, ensuring technical accuracy and alignment with project requirements.
  • Specify appropriate materials and analyze structural designs for robustness, cost-effectiveness, and risk mitigation.
  • Lead Design FMEA sessions with cross-functional teams including Logistics, Manufacturing, Product Engineering, Purchasing, Quality, Suppliers, and Tooling/Fixtures to identify potential risks and implement corrective actions.
  • Utilize the QPC process in accordance with IATF-16949 standards to ensure quality and process compliance.
  • Act as the technical contact for sales support, maintaining and growing customer relationships through technical expertise and effective communication.
  • Provide manufacturing support during prototyping and production launches, including troubleshooting and process optimization.
  • Manage and direct designers and drafters providing project support, ensuring adherence to schedules and quality standards.
  • Perform tolerance stack-up analysis, apply GD&T principles, and utilize CAD tools for detailed design and drafting.
  • Analyze heat transfer and structural phenomena using sound engineering principles to optimize product performance.
  • Support continuous improvement initiatives and perform other duties as assigned to meet departmental goals.
