Freeman Mathis and Gary, LLP is a rapidly growing, national specialty litigation firm seeking an experienced Data Analyst to join our Atlanta office. The Data Analyst is responsible for building, maintaining, and improving firmwide reporting, analytics, and business intelligence capabilities. This role focuses on transforming manual and fragmented reporting processes into accurate, scalable, and automated reporting solutions that support Finance, Operations, and firm leadership. The Data Analyst will work across departments to gather requirements, build structured datasets, and deliver dashboards and analysis that provide clear visibility into firm performance. The legal environment is fast-paced and deadline driven, so strong organization, accuracy, and the ability to manage multiple priorities is essential. Ideal candidates are highly proficient in SQL, comfortable working with large and complex datasets, and able to communicate effectively with both technical and non-technical stakeholders. Build and maintain SQL-based datasets and reporting structures to support firmwide financial and operational reporting
Replace manual Excel and ad hoc reporting processes with scalable, automated reporting solutions
Develop and maintain Power BI dashboards for leadership, Finance, and operational teams
Work with Finance, IT, and other departments to gather requirements and translate business needs into reporting solutions
Analyze and report on key firm performance metrics including revenue, billings, collections, WIP, AR, utilization, and profitability
Reconcile reporting outputs to source systems and financial data to ensure accuracy and consistency
Identify discrepancies in reporting and investigate root causes to improve data quality
Build validation checks and controls into recurring reporting processes
Document reporting logic, metric definitions, and data transformations
Create and maintain reusable data assets to improve efficiency and reduce duplication across reporting efforts
Communicate findings clearly and concisely to stakeholders, including senior leadership
Work proactively to identify opportunities for process improvement and increased efficiency
Build relationships across departments to ensure alignment and successful reporting outcomes
Assist with special projects and additional duties as assigned
Requirements
Strong attention to detail and commitment to accuracy, with an understanding of how reporting impacts firm performance and decision-making
Ability to manage multiple priorities and meet deadlines in a fast-paced environment
Advanced SQL skills, including joins, aggregations, working with large datasets, and best practices
Advanced Excel skills, including advanced formulas, pivot tables, macros
Experience building and maintaining reporting datasets and dashboards using Power BI
Strong problem-solving and critical thinking skills
Ability to identify inefficiencies and implement process improvements
Strong written and verbal communication skills
Ability to work independently and as part of a team
Comfortable working with sensitive and confidential information
Ability to learn new systems and processes quickly
Education and Experience
Bachelor’s Degree required; degrees in Data Analytics, Information Systems, Business, Finance, or related fields preferred
3–6+ years of experience in data analysis, reporting, or business intelligence
Strong experience with SQL required
Proficiency with Power BI or similar BI tools required
Advanced Excel experience required
Experience working with financial or operational data preferred
Experience in a law firm, professional services, or similar environment preferred
Experience with systems such as Aderant, Elite, Litify, or similar is a plus
Exposure to Python, forecasting, or scenario modeling is a plus
Growth & Development This role is primarily focused on SQL-based reporting, reporting automation, data accuracy, stakeholder support, and process improvement, with responsibility for translating business reporting needs into reliable dashboards, reusable datasets, and actionable insights.
