The City of Kenosha Department of Parks manages all city parks and beaches, two public swimming pools, a golf course, numerous flower beds and recreational facilities. The department provides diverse opportunities while preserving parks and open spaces. Schedule: 40 hours per week, Monday through Friday, contingent on weather and operational needs (approximately March thru October/November). Assignments may require some weekends and occasional extended hours as needed. Please note that City employees (including seasonal employees) may only be employed in one department/division at any one given time. This employment is strictly temporary ("at will") which may be terminated at any time and does not lead to permanent full-time employment. Duties Under the direction of the Skilled Maintenance Lead, and/or designee, this position is responsible for the care, development, and presentation of assigned garden areas throughout the City. Duties include but are not limited to, the following:
Perform planting and maintenance
Work in greenhouse with various temperature conditions
Perform daily horticultural care including planting, watering, pruning, weeding, soil preparation, irrigation, fertilization, pest management, and seasonal change-outs
Install, maintain, and remove seasonal floral and plant displays to enhance the visitor experience
Communicate with the public in a professional and courteous manner
Maintain cleanliness and organization of greenhouses, garden beds, vehicles, and surrounding work areas
Inspect, operate, and perform routine maintenance on equipment and vehicles in a safe manner
Safely operate City vehicles and travel between multiple work locations as required
Maintain regular and reliable attendance
Attend mandatory training sessions as required
Follow all policies, procedures, and operational guidelines established by the Department
Perform attendant or other duties as required
Minimum Qualifications Must be at least 18 years of age by May 1, 2026 or start date Must successfully pass a post-offer drug screening Must successfully pass a criminal background check Possession of and ability to maintain a valid driver's license Knowledge, Abilities & Skills Required

Physical Requirements:
Ability to lift and carry up to 50 pounds, and occasionally lift items exceeding 100 pounds
Ability to stand, bend, kneel and walk for extended periods.
Ability to work outdoors in various weather conditions.
Sensory Requirements
Ability to see clearly, to read instructions, monitor work areas and observe safety conditions.
Ability to hear and respond to verbal instructions, alarms, and public inquiries.
Ability to use touch and manual dexterity to handle equipment and perform maintenance tasks.
Ability to perceive environmental conditions, including weather, water quality, and safety hazards, and respond appropriately.
