Site Safety & Health Officer (SSHO)

**Summary Of Job Description**

CAPE is looking for a qualified Field Engineer I or Field Engineer II to join our Construction Services Team to serve as an on-site Project Quality Control (QC) Officer supporting a variety of field projects.

At CAPE, this role serves as a jumping off point to the project management career path. While working in this position, you will gain valuable field experience that will poise the successful candidate for entry to our project management track. Typical duration in this position is 2 to 3 years, with the positioning to transition to the project management career path, dependent upon successful performance.

The ideal candidate will provide field support in areas of technical expertise including but not limited to QC, engineering design, evaluations and assessments, reports, process optimization and technical program development and implementation to include support to staff such as project managers, QC managers, engineers, CADD technicians, field technicians and technical writers.

This position will implement the site-specific QC plan requirements for the assigned project. QC responsibilities include, but are not limited to, onsite inspections and documentation of all daily inspections, testing and adherence to established procedures, submittal review and approval, implementation of the 3-phase QC process, provide follow up inspections and document correction of deficiencies, attend meetings (kickoff, coordination, mutual understanding), conduct QC meetings. In the event of a major deficiency, this position is authorized to stop work to prevent further non-conforming work and is responsible for documenting the major deficiency, investigating causes of occurrence, working with the Project Manager and Project Superintendent to resolve the deficiency, and following up to ensure the deficiency is resolved. This position will work closely with the Senior Engineers, who will provide support, coaching, and training to all Field Engineers. Note that there is often downtime between field projects and when that occurs, you will work from home. Tasks at that time would include training, plan/report writing (often completion documentation for the project you served on), preparations for the next assignment, and supporting other divisions (technical, estimating, PMs, etc.) as needed.

CAPE’s project scopes vary widely. Below are a few examples of recent project scopes of work:

- Multi-phase Superfund remedial action project including demolition of existing process buildings and construction of a new 450 GPM groundwater treatment facility designed to handle up to 475,200 GPD. Facility features include reinforced concrete foundations with vapor gas barriers, structural steel with masonry and insulated panels, EPDM roofing, fire suppression and alarm systems, and an emergency generator.

- Construction of a groundwater treatment plant to replace the current PFOS/PFOA/PFNA impacted treatment plant, for point of use drinking water to provide supplemental water during high demand. The treatment system consists pre and post chlorination, green sand filtration and lime slurry dosing. The system is contained within a 3,200 sqft CMU building with a wooden truss roof and asphaltic shingles. Phase II Water Line Extension extended two municipal force mains 1300 LF of open trenching and 275 LF horizontal directional drilling

- Soil and groundwater remediation at a former disposal area. Project tasks include: targeted excavation and management of impacted soils, installation and operation of subsurface treatment systems, in situ treatment of contaminated source areas, and implementation of erosion, sediment, and stormwater controls to support construction and protect nearby resources.

- Phased remedial design and construction with integrated stormwater management. Project tasks include: completing remedial work in multiple phases, refining and implementing stormwater and sediment controls as designs are updated, installing temporary and permanent water management features early to support field activities, and restoring disturbed areas following completion of remediation.

**Salary**

$90,000 up to $120,000 annually, commensurate with experience and qualifications.

**Travel**

Project Engineer I

Fantastic field oriented role that will lead and/or support a growing portfolio of environmental engineering projects, primarily in the Western US. This role will lead fieldwork to execute site investigations and remedial actions. Responsible for Quality Control, technical direction, and subcontractor oversight. Approximately 70% travel and 30% remote/home office. Fieldwork will involve multi-media environmental sampling, subsurface drilling, lithologic logging, waste management, GPS surveying, and subcontractor oversight at key project sites across the U.S and Territories. Office work will involve technical writing and analysis/interpretation of field and lab data. This role will receive direct mentorship from licensed professionals (PG's, PE's) and is expected to implement original engineering solutions, manage self-directed training, and perform independent research and analysis.
