We are seeking an experienced and relationship-driven Director of Business Development to join a growing primary substance abuse treatment center. This leadership role is ideal for a business development professional with strong existing referral relationships throughout California and a proven track record driving admissions growth for out-of-network (OON) behavioral health treatment programs. The ideal candidate understands the behavioral healthcare landscape, excels at relationship building, and is passionate about helping individuals access quality care. This position will focus heavily on developing and maintaining strategic referral partnerships across the state of California while representing the organization with professionalism, integrity, and compassion. Responsibilities
Develop and maintain strong referral relationships with healthcare providers, hospitals, therapists, interventionists, EAPs, treatment centers, and community organizations throughout California
Drive admissions growth through ethical and strategic outreach efforts
Represent the organization at industry events, conferences, networking functions, and community meetings
Educate referral partners on the company’s programs, levels of care, admissions process, and clinical philosophy
Collaborate closely with Admissions, Clinical, and Executive Leadership teams to support census and growth initiatives
Maintain consistent communication with referral sources and provide excellent customer service
Identify new business opportunities and expansion strategies within the California behavioral health market
Track outreach activities, referral trends, and performance metrics within CRM systems
Assist in developing regional business development strategies and market penetration plans
Ensure all outreach and marketing efforts remain compliant with industry regulations and ethical standards
Qualifications
Minimum of 3+ years of business development experience within the behavioral health or substance abuse treatment industry
Proven experience marketing and referring to out-of-network (OON) treatment facilities
Existing organic referral relationships throughout California strongly preferred
Strong understanding of the substance abuse treatment continuum of care
Excellent communication, networking, and relationship-building skills
Experience working closely with Admissions teams and referral pipelines
Ability to travel throughout California as needed
Self-motivated, organized, and goal-oriented professional
Experience with CRM systems and reporting tools preferred
Bachelor’s degree preferred but not required based on relevant industry experience
Preferred Experience
Existing relationships with interventionists, therapists, hospitals, and behavioral health providers in California
Experience representing detox, residential, PHP, or IOP treatment programs
Knowledge of OON insurance models and behavioral healthcare market dynamics
Experience helping scale or grow treatment programs
