About This Role Wells Fargo is seeking a Principal Engineer where you'll shape the future of our large-scale, Java-based platforms. In this role, you'll partner closely with senior leadership as a trusted advisor, driving architecture and engineering strategy while leading the design and delivery of complex, high-impact microservices solutions. You'll apply your expertise in Java, Spring Boot, and enterprise architecture to build scalable, resilient systems that solve meaningful business challenges and power enterprise-wide capabilities. You'll also play a key role in advancing our modern, cloud-native ecosystem-leveraging APIs, event-driven design, and emerging technologies to continuously improve performance and efficiency. As a recognized expert in backend engineering, you'll collaborate across teams and influence critical technical decisions, helping set the direction for innovation and long-term success. In This Role, You Will
Act as an advisor to leadership to develop or influence applications, network, information security, database, operating systems, or web technologies for highly complex business and technical needs across multiple groups
Lead the strategy and resolution of highly complex and unique challenges requiring in-depth evaluation across multiple areas or the enterprise, delivering solutions that are long-term, large-scale and require vision, creativity, innovation, advanced analytical and inductive thinking
Translate advanced technology experience, an in-depth knowledge of the organizations tactical and strategic business objectives, the enterprise technological environment, the organization structure, and strategic technological opportunities and requirements into technical engineering solutions
Provide vision, direction and expertise to leadership on implementing innovative and significant business solutions
Maintain knowledge of industry best practices and new technologies and recommends innovations that enhance operations or provide a competitive advantage to the organization
Strategically engage with all levels of professionals and managers across the enterprise and serve as an expert advisor to leadership
Required Qualifications:
7+ years of Engineering experience, or equivalent demonstrated through one or a combination of the following: work experience, training, military experience, education
5+ years of experience in designing and building scalable Java-based microservices and cloud-native applications (public and/or private cloud)
5+ years of experience deploying real-time ML inference pipelines processing millions of records at high throughput
3+ years of experience in the financial services industry
2+ years of experience building production AI
Desired Qualifications:
Strong expertise Java, Spring Boot, and RESTful APIs
Strong expertise Microservices architecture and distributed systems design
Experience with event-driven and streaming platforms such as Apache Kafka, Azure Stream Analytics, or Google Cloud Dataflow
Experience with Apache Spark using Java/Scala/Python
Excellent verbal, written, and stakeholder communication skills, with ability to influence technical and business leaders
Familiarity with CI/CD, containerization (Docker/Kubernetes), and DevOps practices
Working know-how and familiarity with Gen AI tools and frameworks.

Pay Range Reflected is the base pay range offered for this position. Pay may vary depending on factors including but not limited to demonstrated examples of prior performance, skills, experience, or work location.
