The Tepa Companies are seeking an experienced Site Safety & Health Officer (SSHO) to support a U.S. Army Corps of Engineers (USACE) construction project at Lake Red Rock, Iowa.
This role is ideal for a construction safety professional with strong knowledge of EM 385-1-1, OSHA regulations, and heavy civil or federal construction environments. The SSHO will serve as the onsite safety authority responsible for implementing and enforcing all project safety requirements while supporting successful project execution.

Job Functions:
- Serve as the designated onsite Site Safety & Health Officer (SSHO) for the project
- Enforce compliance with OSHA regulations, USACE EM 385-1-1 standards, and project-specific safety requirements
- Implement and maintain the approved Accident Prevention Plan (APP), Activity Hazard Analyses (AHAs), and other safety documentation
- Conduct daily site safety inspections, audits, and safety briefings
- Identify hazards and implement corrective actions to maintain a safe work environment
- Coordinate permits including confined space, hot work, excavation, and other high-risk activities
- Work closely with project management and subcontractors to ensure compliance with all safety requirements
- Investigate incidents, near misses, and accidents and recommend corrective actions
- Maintain accurate safety documentation, reports, and records
- Verify competent person designations and required certifications for project personnel
- Make field-level safety decisions and stop work when unsafe conditions exist
WHAT WE’RE LOOKING FOR
- High School Diploma or GED required
- 5+ years of construction safety experience supporting commercial, industrial, heavy civil, or federal construction projects
- Strong working knowledge of USACE EM 385-1-1
- OSHA 30-Hour Construction Safety certification (within the last 5 years)
- OSHA 30-Hour General Industry certification preferred
- Experience developing or implementing AHAs, APPs, and site-specific safety plans
- Experience conducting safety audits, inspections, and incident investigations
- Ability to communicate effectively with field personnel, subcontractors, and project leadership
- Proficiency with construction-related software and digital reporting tools
- Valid driver’s license required
- Must be able to pass a federal background check and pre-employment drug screening
