**CARPENTER APPRENTICE / LABORER**

**THE OPPORTUNITY**

Sun Construction is currently seeking a passionate individual to join our team as a Carpenter Apprentice / Laborer, offering a gateway to an exciting construction career. Working directly under the expert guidance of a seasoned Carpenter, you'll play a vital role in constructing, erecting, installing, and repairing structures using wood, plywood, metal studs, and drywall, etc. This apprenticeship blends hands-on fieldwork with structured class time, providing a unique opportunity to apply practical skills in real-world construction scenarios while deepening your theoretical knowledge. This is typically a four-year program and commitment where after all the requirements are met and successfully completed, you will earn the title as Journeyman Carpenter.

Initially the work will start out as labor tasks and gradually move to apprentice related work. Since the classes for this program start every 4 years, we will need the current program to complete before the new classes begin. This will give us the opportunity to ensure our next group of apprentices are displaying the required aptitude, commitment and good character for carpentry apprenticeship.

**Compensation**

The starting pay for private work is $16/hour and the current starting Apprentice wage for federal work is $20.50/hour. Fringe benefits would be in addition to the starting wage. More details will be discussed upon hiring.

**Roles And Responsibilities**

**Over the course of the program, you will learn or be introduced to the following:**

-  Form and prepare foundations, sidewalks, driveways, retaining walls, curbs, and various types of concrete formworks ready for placement. Assistance with concrete placement and finishing is a plus.

-  Rough carpentry layout, plate, detail & construct walls; layout, cut and install post & beams; layout and construct floors systems; layout, cut and assemble roof frames; install various types of Simpson and custom heavy gauge hardware; install trusses, block, fascia and sheath roofs; ceiling framing; frame soffits and install finish soffit materials; installation of window frames; install various types of siding and trim materials; cut and assemble stairs & railings; installation of drywall; experience with various types of roofing.

-  Finish carpentry including doors, frames, hardware, casing, base board, assemble and install cabinets, counter-tops, wainscot, crown molding in both residential and commercial settings.

-  Sand surfaces to remove ridges, tool marks, glue, or caulking.

-  Use of builder's levels, transits and other types of layout tools for insuring structures are built level, plumb and square and in the correct locations, at the correct elevations, and within required setbacks.

-  Safe use of ladders, properly erecting scaffolding, proper use of PPE including fall restraint and fall protection systems in compliance with OSHA standards and company policies.

-  Taking off materials, creating cut packages, material selection to ensure quality finish products.

-  Coordinating and communication with team members to ensure work is done safely and efficiently.

-  Select tools, equipment, and materials, transporting them to the work site as needed.

-  Maintain cleanliness and safety by cleaning work areas including ensuring sites are free of nails and other miscellaneous debris

-  Take care of company tools, machines, vehicles, and equipment if ever they are needed to perform work tasks and ensure they are left in good working condition and cleaned properly after use. Must also follow company protocols for signing in and signing out.

-  Report on all issues and incidents to your direct supervisor or HR manager.

Also functions of a laborer as needed include keeping the job site tidy and safe, moving of materials, and manual labor tasks as needed.

**Qualifications & Education/Experience Requirements**

-  Demonstrated eagerness and willingness to learn.

-  Working knowledge of job site safety and OSHA standards, complemented by the ability to complete a company-specific safety orientation.

-  Strong or developing communication skills.

-  High School Diploma or GED required.

Carpenter Apprentice

**GENERAL LABOR POSITION**

**THE OPPORTUNITY**

Sun Construction is currently seeking an experienced and hardworking individual to fill a General Skilled Laborer and Yard/Fleet Manager hybrid position on our team. The ideal candidate for this role will have experience working on various construction sites, being able to lift heavy materials and tools, experience operating machinery, some experience in vehicle and equipment maintenance and be able to safely operate truck and trailer.

**The Compensation**

The pay range is from $18.00 to $26.00.

Actual starting wage rate may vary depending on skills, qualifications and experience. In addition to the hourly wage, there are a variety of fringe benefits including Medical, Dental and Vision Insurance, 401K Plan, Social Security Benefit, Workers Compensation, TDI, Vacation Pay, Group Life Insurance to name a few. Some of these benefits require the employee to be vested with the Company for at least one year.

**Roles & Responsibilities**

- Represents Sun Construction in terms of cleanliness, neat appearance, and when required dressed in company attire and/or wearing proper personal protective equipment (PPE).

- Manages and organizes the resources within the construction yard, including equipment, machinery, tools, and materials. Ensures the necessary resources are available and properly maintained for efficient project execution.

-  Will work closely with Office and Field Management for scheduling deliveries, pick-ups, routine maintenance, coordinating repairs and keeping maintenance records up to date including applying sticker for last oils change mileage on vehicle dash area.

- MUST know and be able to operate and hook up trailers properly including making sure the vehicle and trailer are in good working condition, load is/are secured and observe safe driving practices.

- Submit receipts to the Office to update vehicle/equipment maintenance files.

- Manage, update and ensure compliance for tools, vehicles and equipment tracking sign in/sign out with complete information as to WHO, WHEN, WHERE, WHAT and VERIFY CONDITION of tools, vehicles and equipment before and after use to ensure they are functional, clean and ready for the next person.

- Report any issues and any incidents involving company tools, equipment and vehicles.

- Maintain the base yard and surrounding area.

- Supports the field crews with material deliveries, and other duties as assigned by project managers or foremen/leads.

- Load, unload, stage, and prepare any tools or materials used to complete the building so the crew can operate efficiently.

- Remove and dispose of any trash, debris, waste materials, and keep the site clean and orderly.

- Assist tradespeople and heavy equipment workers as needed with excavation, concrete foundations, rough/finish carpentry, and other trade work as needed.

- Follow all health and safety guidelines to ensure you and your team members are free from injury.

**Qualifications & Education/Experience Requirements**

- High school diploma or equivalent.

- Ability to use hand tools and/or power tools.

- Must have good communication skills, be self- motivated and able to utilize time management efficiently.

- Be able to lift heavy objects, do physical labor, and other strenuous tasks.

- Some experience using construction equipment: forklift, skid steer, excavator, etc.

- Be able to work in a team environment and adhere to the company's core values of Accountability, Honesty and Effective Communication.

- Has and/or provide their own, reliable transportation to and from work sites; as well as tools to perform the work safely and to adhere to quality requirements.
