Bachelor’s Degree (foreign equivalent or higher) OR four (4) years of directly related full-time experience, or a combination of higher education and experience totaling four (4) full-time years may be considered. Five (5) years at-sea shipboard experience in coastal waters to include at least two (2) years serving in the capacity as vessel master or captain in open waters. Have familiarity with loading, deploying and recovering equipment off vessels and be able to lift a minimum of 50 pounds. Possessing and maintaining a US Coast Guard Master- Near Coastal license, 100 tons or more, licensed to carry passengers is essential for this position to meet US Coast Guard requirements and State liability concerns. **Preferred Qualifications**

Advanced Degree (foreign equivalent or higher). Additional years (3+) of experience as vessel master. Prior at-sea experience aboard an oceanographic research vessel. Firsthand knowledge of Long Island Sound, Block Island Sound, the Mid-Atlantic Bight past the continental shelf break, New York Harbor, coastal waters of New Jersey, and the Hudson River. Experience conducting bottom trawl fishing in a Captain's capacity. Experience with maintenance and repair of diesel engines and other mechanical/electrical systems and operation of on-board oceanographic equipment.

**Brief Description Of Duties**

The R/V Seawolf Captain reports directly to the Fleet Manager, and is responsible for all aspects of the 80’ R/V Seawolf’s operations and maintenance at Stony Brook University's School of Marine and Atmospheric Sciences (SoMAS). The Captain is assisted by full-time technicians, and additional crew members as needed (as filled by other staff positions, temporary deckhands, or hired students). The role primarily involves operating the R/V Seawolf, though occasional assistance with smaller SoMAS vessels may be required. The Captain ensures the vessel's safe operation, maintenance, and effective support of SoMAS research and educational activities, which often include multiple trawling cruises. The successful incumbent must have the ability to undertake fieldwork in varying conditions and must be able to handle sampling gear for fieldwork.

**Key Responsibilities**

-  Captain:

-  Serve as Captain, ensuring the safety of the vessel, crew, and passengers. Ensure compliance with all US Coast Guard and regulatory requirements. Maintain all required logs and submit daily reports. Conduct bottom trawling/research respectfully.

-  Operations:

-  Safely operate shipboard scientific equipment and sampling apparatus. Conduct safety briefings, arrange berthing/supplies in coordination with the Fleet Manager, and occasionally operate smaller SoMAS vessels and transport vehicles (trucks, vans, forklifts).

-  Maintenance & Repair:

-  Inspect, perform, and/or oversee operational maintenance and repairs for the ship and its systems (engines, hydraulics, electrical, etc.) both at sea and in port. This includes scraping, painting, repairing trawl nets/cables, and supervising shipyard work (in-person).

-  Supervision & Training:

-  Train and supervise full-time technicians, temporary deckhands, and student crew during operations and maintenance.

-  Other duties or projects as assigned as appropriate to rank and departmental mission.

**Special Notes**

This is a full-time appointment. FLSA Exempt position, not eligible for the overtime provisions of the FLSA. Minimum salary threshold must be met to maintain FLSA exemption.

In addition to the employee's base salary, this position is eligible for $4,000 UUP annual location pay, paid biweekly.

**Brief Description Of Duties**

The Biostatistical Consulting Core, Office of Scientific Affairs, School of Medicine, Stony Brook University is looking for a master-level biostatistician with a strong interest in academic scholarship and publication as well as skills in managing, programming, and analyzing data from multiple sources. The successful candidate will work with investigators, research coordinators, medical students, and post-graduate fellows to complete various translational and clinical research projects using a variety of statistical techniques. In addition, the successful candidate will get an opportunity to collaborate with other experienced statisticians and supervise junior trainees who are enrolled in Stony Brook University graduate programs. The successful incumbent should become well versed with medical terminology. The biostatistician will have well-developed analytical, organizational, and oral and written communication skills. Along with the ability to effectively communicate technical concepts, both written and oral. The successful incumbent will need to work independently, as well as in a team environment, and supervise students and junior biostatisticians. The biostatistician is responsible for managing and prioritizing multiple projects to ensure on-time delivery as well as meticulous quality. Ability to effectively communicate biostatistical concepts, both written and oral.

**Duties**

-  Perform statistical analysis and prepare reports on the results and interpretation of results.

-  Participate in the preparation of written and oral presentations and publications that summarize the analysis of data, interpret the findings, and provide conclusions and recommendations.
