South Bend Code School is seeking an AI & Tech Education Fellow to help design and teach our AI & Tech Summer Camp for students in grades 2–8.

We're looking for someone who understands how AI tools work, can use them effectively through strong prompting, and can teach others to do the same. Fellows will build original, project-based curriculum and lead instruction during camp week at the Technology Resource Center (TRC) in South Bend, IN.

Fellows will design curriculum and lead activities across three grade groups:

- Grades 2–3

- Grades 4–5

- Grades 6–8

Students will be introduced to concepts and tools such as:

- Prompt Engineering: How to communicate effectively with AI tools like ChatGPT and Claude to get useful, accurate, and creative results

- AI Literacy: How AI models work, what their limitations are, and how to evaluate outputs critically

- Scratch: Visual, block-based programming for younger learners

- Python: Introduction to text-based coding for older students

- Web Technologies: HTML/CSS fundamentals for older students

- Unplugged Activities: Games and simulations that teach algorithms, logic, and data concepts without screens

Curriculum will be original, hands-on, and project-based, with guidance and feedback from SBCS leadership throughout the process.

Fellowship Structure

Start Date: Late April (flexible) Length: Approximately 6–8 weeks total

Curriculum Development Sprint (3–4 weeks, remote)

- Approximately 75–100 hours of focused curriculum development work

- Flexible schedule — work on your own time to hit the deadline

- Design lesson flow, build projects, and develop materials with support from SBCS leadership

Camp Week (June 15–18, in-person)

- Monday–Thursday, 9:00 AM–12:00 PM at the Technology Resource Center, South Bend, IN

- Approximately 18–20 total hours including prep and student support

Qualifications

Required:

- Hands-on experience with AI tools (ChatGPT, Claude, or similar) and working knowledge of prompt engineering

- Proficiency in Python, Scratch, or similar

- Background in computer science, software engineering, data science, AI/ML, or a related field

- Strong communication skills and genuine interest in working with youth

Nice to Have:

- Experience designing curriculum, workshops, or tutorials

- Familiarity with HTML/CSS

- Prior teaching or mentoring experience, especially K–12

- A portfolio or GitHub with examples of your work

Compensation: Stipend commensurate with experience — details discussed with candidates.

- Letter of recommendation upon successful completion

- Opportunities to continue working with SBCS in future programs

- Connections with the South Bend tech and education community
