Vice President of Internal Audit – Job DescriptionPosition Summary The Vice President of Internal Audit is responsible for leading the organization’s internal audit function, ensuring robust governance, risk management, and internal control processes. This role provides independent and objective assurance to senior management and the Board (or Audit Committee) regarding the effectiveness of operations, financial reporting, and compliance. Key ResponsibilitiesAudit Strategy & Leadership
Develop and execute a risk-based internal audit strategy aligned with organizational objectives
Establish annual audit plans and ensure effective resource allocation
Lead and manage the internal audit team, fostering a high-performance culture
Risk Management & Internal Controls
Evaluate the effectiveness of internal controls, risk management, and governance processes
Identify key business risks and recommend mitigation strategies
Ensure alignment with enterprise risk management (ERM) frameworks
Audit Execution & Oversight
Oversee the planning, execution, and reporting of financial, operational, and compliance audits
Ensure audits are conducted in accordance with professional standards (e.g., IIA standards)
Review audit findings and provide actionable recommendations
Regulatory Compliance
Ensure compliance with applicable laws, regulations, and internal policies
Support external audits and regulatory examinations
Monitor changes in regulatory requirements and assess impact on the organization
Stakeholder Engagement
Report audit findings and risk insights to executive leadership and the Audit Committee
Maintain strong relationships with key stakeholders across business units
Act as a trusted advisor on control and compliance matters
Continuous Improvement & Innovation
Enhance audit methodologies, tools, and technologies (e.g., data analytics, automation)
Promote a culture of continuous improvement and accountability
Benchmark audit practices against industry standards
Qualifications
Bachelor’s degree in Accounting, Finance, or related field (Master’s or MBA preferred)
12–15+ years of experience in internal audit, risk management, or public accounting
Professional certifications such as CPA, CIA, CISA, or ACCA strongly preferred
Strong knowledge of auditing standards, internal controls, and regulatory frameworks (e.g., SOX)
Proven leadership experience managing audit teams and complex engagements
Excellent analytical, communication, and problem-solving skills
