Location: Basalt, CO (strong preference for local or willing to relocate; remote considered for extremely strong candidates both in skill but especially fit)
Reports To: Tax Team Lead
Role Type: 95% Tactical, 5% Strategic
About the Role
We’re looking for a Tax Accountant who can jump into the thick of business returns, crank out high-quality work, and keep clients feeling supported and understood along the way. This is not your typical “heads down, no talking, grind until April 15th” kind of tax shop.
Think of us as a laid-back, mountain-town firm where we take client service seriously but also value margaritas on Thursdays, office dogs, and keeping tax season as stress-free as possible. You’ll work closely with our Tax Manager, preparing a combination of business returns (1120, 1120S, 1065) plus the corresponding 1040s (and ya know be a team player and help out with any other 1040’s that need to get done). You wont be sitting in a dusty back office hiding from the sun, you’ll be a front-line contact for clients—helping them navigate taxes without the panic sweats.
Your mission? Deliver accurate, timely returns, build genuine client relationships, and help us grow our tax practice into something big (without sacrificing our lifestyle or humor along the way).

Key Responsibilities
1.   What You’ll Be Doing (aka your tax season survival kit)

Prep like a pro: Business returns + individual returns as easy as making a PB&J sammich (yes that’s a word)
Client whisperer: Be the go-to for answering questions and guiding clients without them needing a translator for “tax speak.”
Quality control sidekick: Work with the Tax Manager to make sure returns are airtight and ready to roll.
Keep it moving: Balance multiple clients and deadlines like a tax-season ninja.

Grow with us: Be part of a firm that’s doubling its tax practice in the next few years, which means big opportunities for you if leadership or tax planning is in your future.

2.   Content Collaboration
Identify great content ideas from real client questions and challenges.
Provide the technical expertise by dropping knowledge bombs that can helps us create content that’s actually useful (and maybe even fun!) for our clients and prospects.
While we won’t force you to become the next YouTube accounting sensation, we’d love for you to join the party and contribute to making content when you can. Whether it’s jumping in on a video, helping with a blog post, or just brainstorming ideas…your input is golden!

Who You Are:
3–5+ years of tax prep experience (business returns especially).
EA or CPA? Fantastic. Not yet? Strong knowledge + willingness to grow works too.
Experience with Lacerte (or CCH) is a huge plus.
Solid client communication skills—you can explain tax stuff without making people’s eyes glaze over.
Organized, detail-loving, and capable of juggling deadlines without losing your cool.
Bonus points if you’ve handled construction or real estate clients (our sweet spot).
Double bonus if you are a Certified Construction Industry Financial Professional (CCIFP) and/or willing to become one
Hungry to learn, grow, and adapt. Our firm, our tech, and the tax world are all evolving fast—you should be excited to evolve right alongside us.
Coachable and thick-skinned. We give (and want) direct, honest feedback—kindly delivered, no ego trips, no hurt feelings. We get better by telling each other the truth.
A true team player (translation: no assholes). Collaboration, humor, and kindness go a long way here—drama, ego, and lone-wolf energy do not.
A lover of mountain views (optional, but we won’t lie—it’s a perk of being in the Roaring Fork Valley).
Why You’ll Love Working Here
Work-life balance is real. We try to work 4-day weeks (even during tax season) and pride ourselves on not running people into the ground.
Culture fit matters more than fancy credentials. We’re a “Human First” team that believes accounting doesn’t have to be miserable, however we’d love for you to get your CPA or EA.
Fun extras. Dogs in the office. Margarita Thursdays. Mountain-town lifestyle if you’re local (and yes, we’d love you to be).
Compensation that respects your skills. $85k–$100k+ depending on experience, plus benefits (PTO, health stipend, tech stipend, profit sharing, and more).
Growth path. We’re aggressively growing. That means opportunities to step into a Tax Manager or planning/strategy role if that’s where you want to go.

Core Values (a.k.a. How We Roll)
Human First: We treat every person—team or client—with kindness, empathy, and respect.
Team Second: We work collaboratively, share the load, and lift each other up (no solo accounting islands here). You’re also not a bench warmer for your clients, so get in there and make a difference!
Appreciation of Humor: We take our work seriously, not ourselves. Bonus points if you bring your best accounting memes.
Join the Party!: We show up, stay engaged, and bring our full selves to the table—every email, meeting, and deadline.
What We Offer
Pay: $85,000-$105,000, depending on your experience and certifications
Benefits:
Simple IRA with up to a 3% company match
Health insurance stipend (for full-time folks)
3 weeks PTO + 9 company holidays (up to unlimited PTO with tenure)
$1000 annual Fitness/recreation stipend
Profit Sharing
Flexibility: You’ll average 35 hours a week throughout the year, with peak hours during tax season being ~45 hours (I wont lie we didn’t hit this target in 2025, but we did the four years prior. We’re actively making changes in the business now (Thanks AI!) to make sure we get this back on track next tax season). The office is closed on Fridays. We care a lot more about taking care of our clients, than what hours you have your butt in a chair.
  • A Team Rowing in the Same Direction: We’re a hybrid crew that supports each other like we’re in the same boat…or office…even though we’re not.
