Job Title: Paint Setting Engineer/Robot Programmer
Location: Starts in Chattanooga, TN, then will move permanently to Toledo, OH in early 2027.
Competences requirements
  • Knowledge / Qualification: Bachelor with experience or master's degree or experiences on paint for plastic parts for automotive business.
  • Previous Experience: 5 years in robotics field on paint for plastic parts or paint process on automotive OEMs

Missions
  • Define and create paths programming on CAD or directly on robots in accordance with application rules for development (for new parts)
  • Set the paint application parameters in accordance with customers’ specifications
  • Ensure the necessary commissioning with the plant and equipment supplier (for new paint line start up) to reach expected quality and performance levels
  • Support plants in optimization/performance improvement projects, path programming transfer and quality of application optimization

KPI and/or main deliverables: Micro project planning (done vs planned), part development tracker (technical performance-layer thickness, color matching, gloss, cycle time, paint consumption…)
Activities
  • Respect and follow safety rules (Plants, business trip, Personal protective Equipment)
  • Ensure the set-up of robots and paint application equipment in the paint shop, for all possible paint applications, in accordance with standards and best practices, and implemented capitalized actions from previous projects
  • Work in team with plant staff and PPE, to achieve quality requirements (Color matching, leveling, adhesion …)
  • Create and improves paint application parameters (Paint consumption, cycle time …)
  • Put in place sustainable solutions for paint application in cooperation with plant technical team and with the projects paint engineers
  • Make proposals of continuous improvements during development and eventually during serial production, according to projects or plant requirements
  • Ensure the development of new products
  • Ensure support for control plans updates, process stability follow-up with plant technical team
  • Under the control of the paint process engineer, decide if results are in line or not with specifications, in case of disagreement proposes a road map to reach performance specifications
  • Based on results and analyze of main defects, looks for root causes of defects and build a plan for continuous improvement of paint application
  • Ensure preparation and implementation of action plans as part of continuous improvement
  • Together with quality department and PPE, ensure paint programming matches quality level requested by the customer
  • Follow up the planning on each project
  • Create digitalization of new robot cell for CAD path programming definition.
  • Ensure the commissioning for the robotics part for new paint line
  • Implement the PPCM for greenfield projects
  • Lead “metier” projects, or contribute to “metier” projects lead by PEE or PKHE

1/ Customer Project Development
  • Uses and Follows development Rules
  • Answer to project requests and report progress to Paint Process Engineer (PPE)
  • Assist the MPM and the paint process engineer for paint validation
  • Validate paint range / process / customer specifications (mechanic & aspect)
  • Plan, organize and assist to initial samples realization
  • Capitalize on lessons learnt

2/ Process – Product Development and Expertise – New Process – New Technologies – Innovation
  • May participate in projects led by R&I
  • Industrialize validated innovations
  • Capitalize through an activity report and associated action plans

3/ Productivity – Optimization (paint)
  • Manage / coordinate or take part in productivity workshops on plant request
  • Participate in specific assessments when required (e.g. paint assessment) or on problem solving workshops regarding craters, dust or similar problems
  • Propose solutions to the work group and/or validate proposed solutions (adjustments, products / process modifications)
  • Capitalize the validated actions
  • Implement the PPCM standard.

4/ Training
  • Design training course (e.g. robot studio, robot guide, robot for paint handling…)
  • Train the new Paint setting engineers and plant robots technicians
