About the role

Position SummaryThe Volunteer Care Coordinator (VCC) is a practitioner of community organizing and relational stewardship who cultivates meaningful, mutual relationships between immigrant newcomers and local community members. This role focuses on recruiting, onboarding, training, and supporting volunteers while walking alongside them in “volunteer case management.” The VCC ensures that volunteer teams are well-supported, culturally responsive, and rooted in Neighbor to Neighbor’s mission of mutuality, dignity, and empowerment.
The VCC works closely with the Program Director and Case Management Director to ensure coordinated, holistic care for newcomer families and the volunteers who support them and reports to the Program Director.
Key ResponsibilitiesVolunteer Recruitment & Onboarding
  • Develop and implement strategies to recruit diverse volunteers aligned with Neighbor to Neighbor’s mission.
  • Conduct interviews, background checks, and discernment conversations with prospective volunteers.
  • Facilitate volunteer onboarding, orientation, and initial training experiences.
  • Create pathways for ongoing learning around cultural humility, trauma-informed care, and advocacy.

Volunteer Care & Relational Stewardship
  • Provide consistent support and check-ins with volunteer teams.
  • Offer coaching, problem-solving, and encouragement as volunteers navigate relationships with newcomer families.
  • Identify and address areas of volunteer fatigue, conflict, or misalignment.
  • Foster a culture of reflection, mutuality, and growth.

Volunteer Case Management Support
  • Collaborate with the Case Manager to align volunteer involvement with family goals.
  • Participate in regular case consultations to ensure volunteers are appropriately engaged and supported.
  • Facilitate introductions between families and volunteer teams.
  • Maintain documentation of volunteer engagement and outcomes.

Community Engagement & Organizing
  • Build relationships with faith communities, civic groups, and local partners to grow Neighbor to Neighbor’s volunteer base.
  • Represent Neighbor to Neighbor at community events as needed.
  • Identify opportunities to deepen advocacy and educational engagement among volunteers.

Administrative & Program Support
  • Track volunteer data, training participation, and engagement metrics.
  • Assist in developing systems that improve communication and clarity between staff and volunteers.
  • Support program evaluation and reporting efforts as requested.

Qualifications
  • Experience in community organizing, volunteer coordination, social services, or relational work.
  • Demonstrated commitment to immigrant justice, cross-cultural relationships, and mutual community-building.
  • Strong interpersonal and conflict navigation skills.
  • Ability to work both independently and collaboratively.
  • Highly organized with attention to detail and follow-through.
  • Comfortable facilitating small groups and trainings.
  • Bilingual (Spanish/English) preferred but not required.

Compensation
  • Part-time. Hourly compensation, $25-$30/hour, up to 20 hours per week
  • Retirement contributions through a SIMPLE IRA.
  • Generous time off, including paid holidays and organization breaks, PTO, and vacation.
  • 6-week sabbatical for every 3 years with the organization.
  • Parental leave.
