Napa Wildlife Rescue (NWR) is the only organization in Napa County authorized to rescue, rehabilitate, and release wildlife back into the wild. NWR operates under permits from the U.S. Department of Fish and Wildlife and the California Department of Fish and Wildlife.
If 2025 taught us anything, it's that wildlife needs our help more than ever! We saw an unprecedented 39% increase in animal intakes and more than 1,000 additional calls to HAWKline from 2024!
Throughout the year, hundreds of bird, raptor, and mammal species are returned to the wild following the specialized care of NWR’s staff and volunteers.
Rehabilitation begins when the public reports distressed wildlife by calling our HAWKline: 707-224-4295 (HAWK). Our Hawkline operators then assess the situation remotely, guiding whether to leave the animal or dispatch rescuers for transport. After rehabilitative care, it's time for the best part of our work: Release! Healthy animals are released back into their native habitats in accordance with species-specific criteria.
In addition to rescue, rehabilitation, and release, NWR offers lesson plans for grades K-5. Thanks to our donors, these lessons are FREE to you! Our curriculum is developed based on Next Generation Science Standards, covering topics in ecology, biodiversity, and human impact. Napa County schools may contact us to arrange for our Animal Ambassadors to visit classrooms and help teach our future generations about the importance and respect due to our local wildlife and ecosystems.
