About Metabolic Metabolic is a specialist metabolic medicine clinic. We combine clinical depth with a digital-first patient experience across four areas: weight management and obesity, diabetes and pre-diabetes, cardiovascular risk, and hormonal and thyroid health. We are not a wellness spa that happens to do bloodwork. Our clinicians are specialists, our diagnostics are comprehensive, and our products are built to the same standard. We are launching in Knightsbridge, London, and building the product layer around that from the ground up. This role sits at the center of that build. The Role We are looking for a Product Designer who can own the full design surface of Metabolic. Mobile app. Web. Patient-facing. Clinician-facing. Design system. The whole thing. This is not a role for someone who needs a lot of structure handed to them. You will work directly with the Head of Product and Technology, make real decisions, and ship work that patients interact with from day one. The quality bar is high. The pace is real. What You Will Own Design System You will build and maintain the Metabolic design system across web and mobile. That means component libraries in Figma, documented token sets, interaction patterns, and the discipline to keep it consistent as the product grows. You will be the person others come to when there is a design system question. You set the standard. Mobile and Web Product Design From the patient app to the booking funnel to the clinician dashboard, you will design across the full stack of our digital touchpoints. You understand the difference between designing for a phone screen at 7am and a 27-inch monitor in a consultation room. Both need to be right. AI-Augmented Workflow You use AI tools as a serious part of how you work, not as a party trick. Figma Make, Google Stitch, Claude for design exploration, v0 for rapid prototyping — these are tools you are already using or immediately curious about. You know where AI accelerates your work and where it does not. You do not outsource your judgment to it. Data Visualization and Health Interfaces A significant part of what we build involves biomarker data, scoring systems, and trend charts that patients and clinicians read to make decisions. You know how to present complex data without losing the human on the other end of it. Cross-functional Execution You will work closely with engineers and contribute meaningfully to implementation conversations. You understand what your design decisions cost in build time and you make tradeoffs with that in mind. You have enough technical fluency to inspect CSS, review a component in a codebase, or identify where a design is going to cause a problem in development. Requirements Experience
3 or more years designing digital products across mobile and web
A portfolio that shows end-to-end thinking — problem framing, iteration, shipping — not just polished final screens
Real experience owning or significantly contributing to a design system
Strong data visualisation work — dashboards, health data, scoring interfaces, or anything complex made legible
Experience working in small teams where you had to move fast and make calls without perfect information
Skills
Figma at a high level — not just wireframing, but components, variables, auto-layout, prototyping, and developer handoff
Working knowledge of AI-powered design tools and a clear point of view on which ones are actually useful
Enough HTML, CSS, and basic JavaScript to have an informed conversation with an engineer and catch implementation issues early
User research — knowing when to run it, how to synthesise it, and how to use it without it becoming a delay
Excellent written communication — you can document a design decision clearly, and your Figma files do not require a guided tour
Mindset
You care about the quality of what ships, not just what you handed over
You default to showing rather than describing — prototypes, mockups, quick explorations
You are genuinely curious about what AI can do in design without being credulous about it
You take feedback well and give it clearly
You work well with ambiguity and do not need a detailed brief to get started
Strong Plus
You have worked on a health tech product — patient-facing apps, clinical tools, EMR integrations, wearable data
You have designed for regulated environments (GDPR, MHRA, CQC adjacent) and understand what compliance means for UX decisions
You have used tools like Framer, Webflow, or similar to build prototypes that go beyond Figma's native capabilities
You have an opinion on what good looks like in AI-native product design right now
What To Include In Your Application Send us your CV and a portfolio link. We will look at both before deciding whether to move forward. Your CV should make clear:
What you have designed, not just where you worked
The size of the teams you have operated in
Whether you have owned design systems or contributed to them and to what degree
Any technical skills you have — even basic ones
Your portfolio should include:
At least two projects with process visible, not just deliverables
At least one example of data visualization or a complex information design problem
