The Mechanical Engineer is responsible for designing, developing, testing, and maintaining mechanical systems and components that support Laerdal's RQI System & Maternal & Nursing products and solutions. This role ensures high-quality, reliable system functionality throughout the product lifecycle while collaborating closely with cross-functional engineering, production, and quality teams. Responsibilities: Mechanical Systems Product Development:
Design, develop, and improve mechanical and mechatronic components, assemblies, and systems based on product requirements.
Define product and system technical requirements.
Create and maintain engineering documentation.
Troubleshoot and solve problems using strong root cause analysis and creative solutions.
Build, test, and verify parts, assemblies, and systems.
Design for manufacturing, assembly, service, reliability, regulatory, and compliance requirements.
Support regulatory testing and certification of products/systems and industrialization of product design.
Evaluate and approve supplier components, support sourcing teams with technical input and vendor communication.
Provide technical support to internal stakeholders, field teams, and customer-facing groups as required.
Support manufacturing by resolving mechanical issues, improving design robustness, and optimizing component selection for supply reliability and cost.
Collaboration & Technical Leadership:
Align and collaborate with system architecture teams.
Collaborate with and support the Mechanical Engineering discipline within the company.
Build and maintain a strong professional network within the company and industry.
Qualifications:
Strong knowledge of mechanical design principles and mechatronic systems design.
Experience with multidisciplinary hardware product development.
Experience with system-level design and cabling.
Knowledge of plastics injection molding and sheet metal fabrication.
Curious, creative, and passionate about innovation and problem solving.
Proficiency in CAD software, preferably Siemens NX.
Experience with laboratory test equipment (oscilloscopes, multimeters, logic analyzers).
Experience with prototyping equipment and 3D printing.
Strong root-cause analysis and structured problem-solving skills.
Experience or interest in electronics and microcontrollers
Education & Experience Requirements
Bachelor of Science in Mechatronics, Robotics, or Biomedical Engineering.
Knowledge of anatomy, physiology, and clinical skills is a plus.
