**Basic Requirement For Chemist:**

-  Degree: Bachelor's degree (or higher degree) in physical sciences, life sciences, or engineering that included 30 semester hours in chemistry, supplemented by course work in mathematics through differential and integral calculus, and at least 6 semester hours of physics.

OR

-  Combination of Education and Experience: Course work equivalent to a major in the physical sciences, life sciences, or engineering, including at least 30 semester hours in chemistry, supplemented by mathematics through differential and integral calculus, and at least 6 semester hours of physics, plus appropriate experience or additional education.

**Specialized Experience **: One year of specialized experience which includes.

- Experience evaluating, interpreting or modifying test result documents;

This definition of specialized experience is typical of work performed at the second lower grade/level position in the federal service (GS-09).

**Education **: Ph.D. or equivalent doctoral degree or 3 full years of progressively higher level graduate education leading to such a degree in a field which demonstrates the knowledge, skills, and abilities necessary to do the work of the position, such as: Physical Sciences, Chemistry and Life Sciences.

**Combination of Education and Experience **: A combination of education and experience may be used to qualify for this position as long as the computed percentage of the requirements is at least 100%. To compute the percentage of the requirements, divide your total months of experience by 12. Then divide the total number of completed graduate semester hours (or equivalent) beyond the second year (total graduate semester hours minus 36) by 18. Add the two percentages.

**PHYSICAL DEMANDS: **Regular visits to process shops require extended periods of walking, bending, and standing, e.g., when testing and monitoring processes, conducting investigations, or examining materials. Work may require some repetitive work above shoulder level, and lifting of moderately heavy items weighing 35 pounds or less.

**WORK ENVIRONMENT: **Work involves regular and recurring exposure to irritant and toxic chemicals. Special safety precautions are required and the chemist must use protective clothing and gear such as a laboratory coat, safety shoes, safety glasses, respirator, and gloves.

Chemist.

Duties

- In a developmental capacity, you will perform progressively more difficult and responsible assignments and tasks associated with the work of explosives operating.

- Perform operations in the renovation, modification, demilitarization, and preservation of ammunition and explosives ranging from small arms to 280 millimeters, to include mines, grenades, and rockets.

- Destroy a variety of explosives, ammunition, and propellants by detonation and burning. Prime explosives according to firing system and test continuity of electrical system.

- Operate electric, diesel, or gasoline-powered forklift trucks to move, stack and unstack materials.

- Disassembly and breakdown of ammunition items operating pull-apart or breakdown machines to separate projectiles from shell casings, and base or nose plugs from bombs and mines.

**Requirements**

- Must successfully complete training in hazardous waste management procedures within six months after the date of appointment to this position.

- Performs hazardous waste management duties and/or hazardous waste worker duties in permitted or regulated facilities.

- Must meet the requirements of AMCR 350-4, Training and Certification Program for Personnel Working in Ammunition Operations.

- Appointment may be subject to a suitability or fitness determination, as determined by a completed background investigation.

- Subject to AR 190-11, Physical Security of Arms, Ammunition and Explosives (AA and E) certification.

I have experience in assisting higher graded workers in handling ammunition or explosives or movement/storage/verification of hazardous material or following strict safety procedures in using hand tools to perform potentially hazardous functions. - Failure to meet this Screen out Element will result in an ineligible rating.

**WG-06 - Minimum Qualifications **(Screen Out Element): Ability to do the work of a(n) Explosives Worker (Forklift Operator)~ Without more than normal supervision, I am able to perform assembly/disassembly of ammunition or explosives; or operating a single operation preset automatic machine to perform explosives work. - Failure to meet this Screen out Element will result in an ineligible rating.

**WG-07- Minimum Qualifications **(Screen Out Element): Ability to do the work of a(n) Explosives Worker (Forklift Operator)~ Without more than normal supervision, I am able to operate more complex semiautomatic or automatic machines to perform explosives production, rework and maintenance. Have operated an electric, gasoline, or diesel diesel-powered forklift truck. - Failure to meet this Screen out Element will result in an ineligible rating.

**WG-08 - Minimum Qualifications **(Screen Out Element): Ability to do the work of a(n) Explosives Worker (Forklift Operator)~ Without more than normal supervision, I have experience working in production, rework, and maintenance ammunition operations or destroying a variety of explosives, ammunition, or propellants by detonation or burning. Operation of an electric, gasoline, or diesel powered fork lift truck. Failure to meet this Screen out Element will result in an ineligible rating.

**Physical effort: ** Work involves lifting and working on production including standing, reaching, bending, stooping and manipulating carrying of items weighing up to 45 pounds lines at rhythmic pace for extended periods parts and using machines and hand tools. During fork lift operation, physical effort is required in braking and steering, manipulation of clutch, shift, lifting and tilting mechanisms.

**Working Conditions: ** Work is usually performed indoors, or outdoors in covered areas or passageways which provide some protection. Work areas are usually well lighted and ventilated. Some operations, however, such as melting powder or steaming out powder, cause uncomfortable steam or heat in the work area. Workers are required to stand on floors made of concrete, lead or conductive composition. They wear protective clothing such as specially treated coveralls, respirators and goggles on many assignments. They are frequently exposed to moisture and wet floors as a result of cleanup operations in powder working areas. They are exposed to the possibility of explosion and flash fire. There is chance of injuries ranging from loss of life or limbs to bums, cuts, bruises, sprains and nausea.

Explosives Worker (Forklift Operator).

Duties

- Vetting of visitors entering an installation.

- Incident Response: Respond to crisis or urgent situations including accidents; man-made, biological, chemical, radiological, or natural disasters; or other incidents that could result in harm to people, property, or the environment.

- Security Equipment Operation: Operate security-related equipment or devices (both manual and automated).

- Physical Security: Apply requirements for equipping and securing government and contractor facilities to guard against unauthorized access, identify suspicious activities, and ensure continuity of operations.

- Must be able to obtain and maintain a favorable secret level background investigation.

- Must successfully pass a pre-employment and recurring medical examination (physical, emotional and mental stability).

- Must obtain certification for state law enforcement systems and National Crime Information Center (NCIC).

- Must be able to perform as a member of the installation's overall security response capability. The duties and training require the employee to carry and deploy a riot baton, carry a protective shield and employ non-lethal ammunitions if necessary.
