Summary: The host/hostess sets the tone of the restaurant because he/she is generally the first person the guest meets. The host/hostess welcomes guests, assigns tables, answers the phone and takes reservations and answers questions during service. Job Duties:
Greets guest entering the restaurant
Assists with coats, hats umbrella (where applicable) in cold or wet weather or directs guest to appropriate place to store their items
Accompanies guests to tables carrying drinks on trays when possible handing out menus
Monitors conditions and flow of service of the dining room for potential bottlenecks or problems adjusting the seating of servers and stations to best serve the experience of the guest
Communicates all significant matters to supervisor and assist in prompt corrective action
Performs any helpful chore such as bussing and resetting tables to expedite the seating of our guests
Answers the phone using proper greeting and phone etiquette always asking for phone # and email as well as asking the guest for any special needs and if they need directions when taking a reservation
Uses OpenTable correctly to acquire information for database and to record correct numbers for future analysis of the business
Actively learns the faces and names of our returning guests and acknowledges our guests when they come to the restaurant
Recommends and provides information of our sister restaurants and other departments and locations in our company
Takes reservations carefully considering the business already reserved and carefully directs the guest to the times that best suit the flow of the restaurant while accommodating the closest time to the guests request
Sells gift cards collecting proper payment
Takes to-go orders, assembles and checks orders for accuracy and collects payment
Is responsible for the balancing of the cashiers bank maintaining balance of deposit and base bank
Routinely checks restrooms for cleanliness and stock
Thanks and invites guest for a return visit on their departure
