Under general supervision of the Chief Financial Officer, the Director of Materials Management is responsible for the management of procurement, storage, and distribution of all supplies and equipment (excluding pharmaceuticals and raw food), managing adequate inventory stock levels to meet the demands of the hospital. Provides for the development and evaluation of staff. Serves as a patient advocate within the health care system. Accountable on a twenty-four (24) hour basis for the management of all facets of materials procurement and management. Participates in the Hospital's Quality Improvement and Service Excellence programs. Interprets and facilitates the application and implementation of the philosophy, objectives, policies and procedures of the department and organization. Works with the hospital leadership to procure the appropriate supplies and equipment within agreed upon time frames
Takes lead on the evaluation of new supply purchases. Assists with the implant approval process to determine the cost of implants used and the cost of potential alternatives
Acts as a subject matter expert (SME) on evaluations of capital purchases; compares similar products across different companies and can speak to the cost/benefit of each
Maintains detailed records of adequate inventory levels consistent with patient care requirements
Orders special supplies and equipment as approved for all departments' use
Assists department leaders on problems relating to various special supplies and equipment, delivery, cost, inventory, etc
Ensures optimal participation in GPO agreements to maximize price savings, rebates, group redistribution and commitments. Ensures at least 85% of purchasing made on-contract
Ensures compliance with all regulatory requirements
Establishes work schedules and assignments to ensure coverage as demonstrated by maintaining appropriate staff within approved budgetary guidelines while ensuring safe, quality patient care
Ensures completion of all employee records including but not limited to: payroll, performance evaluations, competencies, personnel action requests etc
Ensures initial orientation and continuing education opportunities are presented appropriately for all department staff
Coordinates and participates in the development, implementation and evaluation of quality improvement processes for the nursing unit. Maintains quality control programs, as appropriate
Participates in the budget planning process by making recommendations for resources, including personnel, equipment and space as appropriate
Provides 24 hour accountability of leadership by appropriate delegation, using sound decision making and critical thinking skills
Functions competently in the staff role as necessary

LATITUDE, CONTACTS/INTERACTIONS All positions of Huntsville Memorial Hospital are part of an interdisciplinary team, and as such, participate in the care and service delivery process through effective interaction with other team members. Primarily interacts with hospital staff, medical staff, patients, and visitors. Requirements QUALIFICATIONS Education: High school diploma or GED required; bachelor's degree preferred. Experience: Three years of experience in hospital materials management required. License/Certification: Current, valid driver's license. Required Skills: Excellent analytical, oral and written communication and organizational skills. PHYSICAL DEMANDS AND WORKING CONDITIONS Frequent: standing, walking, lifting, carrying, pushing, pulling, reaching & climbing. Occasional: sitting, bending, squatting, kneeling, & twisting. Visual and hearing acuity required; Work is both inside and outside.
