Head of Legal / General Counsel The position of Head of Legal / General Counsel at Guild Garage Group is responsible for leading all legal functions across a rapidly growing portfolio of garage door companies throughout the United States. This role serves as a strategic advisor to executive leadership, with a strong focus on corporate governance, risk management, regulatory compliance and due diligence for mergers and acquisitions. The General Counsel will partner closely with executive, finance, HR, and operations teams to support scalable growth and protect the organization’s legal and financial interests. Location: Remote - with occasional travel (25% or less) Pay: $200,000-$220,000 annual base salary Responsibilities
Lead all legal aspects of corporate governance, risk, compliance, divestitures, integrations, mergers, and acquisitions including due diligence, structuring, negotiation, and closing
Provide legal guidance to executive leadership on corporate strategy, risk, insurance and compliance matters
Draft, review, and negotiate contracts including purchase agreements, vendor contracts, employment agreements, and partnership agreements
Oversee corporate governance, entity structuring, and compliance across multiple states and operating companies
Manage external legal counsel and optimize legal spend and performance
Assist in insurance strategy, claims management, and risk exposure analysis
Develop and implement legal policies, procedures, and risk mitigation strategies
Ensure compliance with federal, state, and local regulations, including labor laws and industry-specific requirements
Support HR and leadership on employment-related legal matters, disputes, and investigations
Oversee litigation, claims, and dispute resolution processes
Provide training to leadership teams on legal and compliance topics
Support ongoing integration of acquired businesses from a legal and compliance perspective
Qualifications and Requirements
Juris Doctor (JD) degree from an accredited law school
Active bar membership in good standing (multi-state preferred)
Minimum 8–12 years of legal experience, with strong M&A and corporate law background
Experience in private equity-backed or multi-entity organizations preferred
Strong knowledge of corporate governance, contract law, employment law, and regulatory compliance
Experience managing outside counsel and legal budgets
Ability to operate in a fast-paced, high-growth environment with evolving priorities
Excellent negotiation, analytical, and decision-making skills
Strong communication skills with the ability to translate complex legal concepts into business terms
High level of integrity and ability to handle confidential information
