Job Title: Electrical Designer (Industrial / Petrochemical) Location: Houston, TX Job Type: Contract / Long-Term Opportunity Pay Rate - $65/hour on W2 - $70/hour on W2 Job Overview We are seeking an experienced Electrical Designer to support large capital projects ($10MM+) within a global engineering team. This role focuses on delivering high-quality electrical designs for industrial and petrochemical facilities, ensuring systems are safe, reliable, and aligned with industry standards. Key Responsibilities
Develop electrical designs for new installations and upgrades in industrial/process plants
Prepare detailed design deliverables including:
One-line diagrams, schematics, and interconnection diagrams
Equipment layouts, cable schedules, and load schedules
Perform electrical design calculations (load, short circuit, etc.)
Support equipment specification, sizing, and procurement activities
Coordinate with multi-discipline teams (Mechanical, Civil, Piping, Instrumentation)
Utilize CAD/CAE tools (AutoCAD, MicroStation, etc.) to produce construction-ready drawings
Participate in scope development, estimates, and project planning
Conduct occasional site visits for field data collection and design validation
Required Qualifications
10+ years of electrical design experience in:
Petrochemical, refinery, heavy industrial, or utility environments
Strong experience in:
Power distribution systems (<1000V)
Electrical schematics and system design
Grounding, lighting, and switchroom layouts
Hands-on experience with electrical calculations (load, short circuit)
Proficiency in CAD tools such as AutoCAD or MicroStation
Working knowledge of industry codes and standards (NEC, NFPA, ANSI)
Ability to work both independently and within cross-functional teams
Preferred Qualifications
Associate degree or higher in Electrical or related field
Experience with 3D design tools
Familiarity with electrical equipment selection and sizing
Experience working in operating plant environments
Work Environment & Travel
Standard Monday–Friday schedule (8-hour days, flexible start times)
Minimal travel (2–3 site visits per year)
Field work in industrial environments may be required (PPE required)
Additional Information
Candidates must be comfortable working in active plant environments
TWIC card may be required (can be obtained after onboarding)
All project-related travel expenses are reimbursed
