About The Role The Operational Technology Network Engineer, Technical Infrastructure at Walt Disney Imagineering plays a crucial role in the design, engineering, and implementation of technical infrastructure systems that support Disney attractions, rides, and venues. Working closely with a multidisciplinary team of designers and engineers, this role spans the entire project lifecycle—from initial concept development through detailed design, production, installation, and final commissioning. The engineer ensures that the technical infrastructure seamlessly integrates with ride and show systems, providing a reliable foundation for complex entertainment environments. Reporting to the Executive Show Systems Architecture, this full-time position requires a blend of technical expertise, collaborative spirit, and innovative thinking to deliver state-of-the-art solutions that enhance guest experiences and operational efficiency. Qualifications The ideal candidate will possess a strong foundation in network systems, including physical infrastructure, switching, routing, VLANs, and network security. They should have hands-on experience with deploying and configuring network hardware, reading and editing engineering diagrams, and troubleshooting complex network issues. Proficiency in Ethernet, IP, ICMP protocols, and higher-level network protocols is essential, along with experience in server and computer system administration, particularly Linux or Unix-like systems. The candidate must demonstrate excellent communication skills, both written and verbal, to effectively document and coordinate with cross-functional teams. Educationally, a bachelor's degree in Electrical Engineering, Computer Science, Software Engineering, Industrial Automation, or Information Technology is required, or equivalent professional experience. Additional desired skills include familiarity with industrial networking devices, optical fiber handling, wireless networks, and advanced networking topics such as QoS, multicast, PTP, and MPLS. Experience with entertainment-specific network protocols (DMX, sACN, Dante, AES-67, ST-2110) and industrial control systems (TwinCAT, RS Logix) is highly advantageous. Knowledge of cybersecurity practices, firewall management, and real-time systems development further enhances candidacy. Responsibilities
Design and implement attraction and venue networks to support show and ride systems.
Collaborate with cross-disciplinary teams to gather requirements and develop comprehensive network solutions.
Create detailed network designs and specifications for engineering deliverables, ensuring compliance with safety and operational standards.
Coordinate the placement of TI equipment and network ports within attraction spaces for optimal performance and accessibility.
Work closely with telecom and IT teams to establish network connections, wireless coordination, and integration with existing infrastructure.
Apply industry-standard and Disney-specific software components to develop robust network architectures.
Develop shared compute, storage, and platform services tailored to project needs, ensuring scalability and reliability.
Integrate networks with ride control, show systems, and facility operations during design and deployment phases.
Assist ride control engineering teams in implementing ride-show networks, vehicle networks, and wireless systems for operational effectiveness.
Maintain documentation of standard architectures, addressing project-specific exceptions and updates for ongoing support and future projects.
