About The Role
The Human Resources Technician position at College of the Desert is a vital administrative role within the Office of Human Resources & Employee Relations. Reporting directly to the Vice President of Human Resources & Labor Relations, the technician will perform a broad range of clerical and administrative duties to support the department’s functions. This role is essential in ensuring smooth operations related to personnel management, recruitment, onboarding, and employee data maintenance. The position requires a professional individual who can handle confidential information with discretion, communicate effectively with diverse stakeholders, and manage multiple tasks efficiently. The Human Resources Technician will serve as a key point of contact for employees, applicants, and the public, providing excellent customer service and facilitating various HR processes. This is a full-time position based in Palm Desert, CA, with a salary range of $56,731.56 to $79,810.68 annually, offering stability and opportunities for professional growth within a collaborative educational environment.
Qualifications
The ideal candidate will possess a high school diploma or equivalent, along with at least three years of administrative or technical clerical experience, particularly involving public contact. Demonstrated proficiency in office operations, procedures, and equipment is essential, including familiarity with modern office practices, record-keeping techniques, and software applications such as word processing, spreadsheets, and database management. Strong organizational skills, attention to detail, and the ability to interpret and apply policies accurately are required. The candidate must demonstrate excellent communication skills, tact, patience, and the ability to work independently with minimal supervision. Experience handling confidential information and working within a team environment is also necessary. Knowledge of personnel processes, applicant tracking systems, and onboarding procedures will be advantageous. Responsibilities
The Human Resources Technician will undertake a variety of duties, including but not limited to:
  • Assist the Vice President of Human Resources & Labor Relations with administrative, clerical, and technical tasks, including communication facilitation and activity coordination.
  • Greet and provide information to students, employees, and visitors, ensuring courteous and professional interactions.
  • Support the management of online applicant tracking systems, onboarding new hires, and maintaining personnel databases.
  • Prepare recruitment documents, screening materials, and assist with interview scheduling and skills assessments.
  • Operate office equipment such as computers, copiers, and telecommunication devices, utilizing various software tools.
  • Review and verify documents for accuracy and compliance, maintain personnel files, and manage office supplies inventory.
  • Compile data for reports, monitor applicant pools, and ensure compliance with district, state, and federal reporting requirements.
  • Coordinate onboarding processes for new employees, including document review and database entry.
  • Schedule meetings, prepare materials, and provide support during committee meetings, including minute-taking and transcription.
  • Manage budget expenditures, track financial transactions, and maintain accurate financial records.
  • Participate in professional development activities to enhance skills and stay current with HR best practices.
  • Perform other related duties as assigned to support the department’s operational effectiveness.
