About The Role
We are seeking a highly skilled Senior Mechanical Design Engineer to join our dynamic team. This role is pivotal in designing and optimizing piping and mechanical systems within process-control environments that handle liquids or gases. The ideal candidate will possess extensive experience in fluid dynamics, equipment specification, and structural analysis, enabling them to lead innovative system designs from conception through to final implementation. As a senior member of the engineering team, you will work independently to develop solutions that meet operational, safety, and regulatory standards, contributing to the advancement of our technological capabilities. Your expertise will be instrumental in ensuring that our projects are executed efficiently, safely, and in accordance with industry standards.
Qualifications
The successful candidate will have a bachelor's degree in Mechanical Engineering or a related field from an accredited institution, or an equivalent combination of education and experience. Professional Engineer (PE) licensure and certifications in project management or quality assurance are advantageous but not mandatory. A minimum of five years of relevant experience in mechanical design engineering, specifically focusing on piping and fluid systems within industrial liquid or gas processing environments, is required. Candidates should demonstrate proficiency in pressure-drop calculations, fluid-flow optimization, and equipment sizing and selection. Familiarity with static and dynamic piping analyses, including pipe-stress and support-structure calculations, is essential. Prior experience working in highly regulated industries such as nuclear, chemical processing, oil and gas, or HVAC is highly desirable. Knowledge of relevant codes and standards, particularly ASME or equivalent, along with a solid understanding of fluid mechanics, thermodynamics, and materials science, is necessary. Candidates must also possess or be able to obtain and maintain a Q security clearance.
Responsibilities
The Senior Mechanical Design Engineer will be responsible for leading the design, construction, and maintenance of facility piping systems. This includes performing rigorous component sizing, selecting appropriate equipment such as pumps, motors, heaters, blowers, and valves, and modeling pressure, flow, and thermal effects using CFD, FEA, and related tools. The role involves validating piping integrity under static and dynamic loads, conducting pipe-stress and structural analyses, and ensuring compliance with all applicable codes and standards. The engineer will develop, review, and red-line mechanical and piping drawings, plans, and specifications derived from engineering calculations. Planning, scheduling, and coordinating detailed phases of engineering work for major projects or moderate scope projects will be key responsibilities, along with preparing rough order of magnitude (ROM) estimates, detailed cost estimates, equipment specifications, and procurement documentation. The role also includes participating in safety reviews, quality assurance activities, training sessions, and regulatory audits, as well as driving continuous improvement by integrating emerging technologies and best practices. Producing technical reports, literature reviews, and progress updates for stakeholders and senior management is essential. The engineer will mentor junior engineers, support troubleshooting efforts, and perform additional tasks as assigned to ensure project success and operational excellence.
