About The Role We are seeking a skilled and dedicated Database Administrator to join our team in Tacoma, Washington. This pivotal role is responsible for maintaining the stability, security, and performance of our core database systems, including MSSQL and MySQL, which support critical organizational operations. The ideal candidate will possess a strong background in database management, with a particular focus on Azure cloud services, especially Azure Synapse Analytics and data integration solutions. You will work closely with infrastructure and analytics teams to design, implement, and optimize database environments, ensuring seamless data flow and accessibility. The role demands excellent problem-solving skills, proactive monitoring, and the ability to troubleshoot complex issues efficiently. Qualifications The ideal candidate will have at least 3-7 years of relevant experience in database administration, including hands-on troubleshooting of SQL Server environments. Experience with on-call support for production SQL Servers is essential, demonstrating the ability to respond promptly to system issues. Proficiency in analyzing DMV queries and utilizing tools such as Extended Events, SQL Profiler, and Data Collection is required. Strong T-SQL query tuning skills and expertise in database schema design, normalization, and indexing strategies are necessary to optimize performance. Knowledge of backup and disaster recovery planning, along with familiarity with data warehousing concepts and ETL processes, is highly valued. Candidates should possess a solid understanding of data modeling tools and methodologies. Certifications such as Microsoft Certified: Azure Database Administrator Associate or Certified MySQL Database Administrator are advantageous but not mandatory. Responsibilities Azure Analytics and Infrastructure Engineering:
Promote changes in Azure DevOps to production Synapse environments, ensuring smooth deployment and minimal disruption.
Manage Synapse pipelines, collaborating with infrastructure teams to deliver robust data solutions aligned with organizational needs.
Design, build, and maintain Azure infrastructure components to support scalable and secure data operations.
Troubleshoot data-related issues within the Enterprise BI platform, including Azure Synapse and Power BI, to ensure data integrity and availability.
Database Administration
Implement and monitor backup strategies to meet Recovery Point Objectives (RPO) and test restores to ensure Recovery Time Objectives (RTO) are achievable.
Troubleshoot SQL Server service outages, including after-hours and weekends, to minimize downtime.
Configure monitoring tools to proactively identify and resolve performance issues, false alarms, or system anomalies.
Install, configure, and upgrade SQL Server environments, deploying approved change scripts from vendors or internal teams.
Diagnose and optimize server, index, and query performance to maintain efficient database operations.
Document the database environment comprehensively, including architecture, configurations, and procedures.
Manage capacity planning, storage, and growth strategies to accommodate organizational data needs.
Proactively address locking, blocking, and concurrency issues to ensure smooth database performance.
Maintain database security standards, implementing access controls and monitoring for compliance.
