About The Role
We are seeking a skilled and motivated Database Administrator to join our dynamic team in Tacoma, Washington. This pivotal role involves maintaining and enhancing our database systems, ensuring their stability, security, and optimal performance. The ideal candidate will be responsible for managing MSSQL, MySQL, and related database environments, with a particular emphasis on supporting our data analytics initiatives within Microsoft Azure, especially Azure Synapse. The Database Administrator will collaborate closely with infrastructure, development, and analytics teams to design, implement, and troubleshoot data solutions that align with organizational goals. This role offers an excellent opportunity to work on cutting-edge cloud technologies, contribute to strategic data initiatives, and support the company's continued growth and innovation.
Qualifications
The ideal candidate will possess at least 3-7 years of relevant experience in database administration, with a proven track record of managing SQL Server environments. Hands-on experience with troubleshooting, performance tuning, and backup strategies is essential. Candidates should have familiarity with tools such as Extended Events, DMVs, SQL Profiler, and Data Collection, along with strong T-SQL query tuning skills. Experience analyzing DMV queries to assess server performance and diagnosing issues related to locking, blocking, and concurrency is required. Knowledge of data modeling, schema design, normalization, and indexing strategies is necessary, as is understanding of data warehousing concepts and ETL processes.
Responsibilities
Azure Analytics and Infrastructure Engineering:
  • Promote changes in Azure DevOps to production Synapse environments ensuring seamless deployment.
  • Manage Synapse pipelines and coordinate with infrastructure teams to deliver robust data solutions.
  • Design, build, and manage Azure infrastructure to meet evolving business demands.
  • Troubleshoot data issues related to the Enterprise BI platform in Azure Synapse and Power BI, ensuring data integrity and availability.

Database Administration
  • Ensure all database servers are backed up in accordance with Recovery Point Objectives (RPO) and regularly test backups to meet Recovery Time Objectives (RTO).
  • Troubleshoot SQL Server service outages, including after-hours and weekends, to minimize downtime.
  • Configure and optimize SQL Server monitoring tools to reduce false alarms and improve alert accuracy.
  • Install, configure, and upgrade SQL Server environments, deploying approved change scripts from vendors or internal teams.
  • Diagnose and resolve performance issues through server, index, or query optimization techniques.
  • Maintain comprehensive documentation of the company's database environment and procedures.
  • Plan and manage database capacity, storage, and growth to prevent bottlenecks.
  • Proactively identify and resolve locking, blocking, and concurrency issues to ensure smooth database operations.
  • Monitor database server health, configure alerts, and implement security measures per company standards.
