Job Title: Mid-Level Ecologist or Environmental Scientist
Location: Georgia
Dramby Environmental Consulting, Inc., (DEC) has an immediate opening for a motivated, goal-oriented mid-level Ecologist or Environmental Scientist to join our growing team in Georgia. DEC has over 15 years of experience in the environmental consulting field throughout the Mid-Atlantic and Southeast. We offer a range of specialized, comprehensive natural resource services for businesses, industry, and state, federal and local government. It is our mission to provide innovative, cost-effective solutions for our client's environmental and natural resource needs in the areas of ecology, streams, fish and wildlife, and regulatory permitting and support.
Job Description: Primary responsibilities include field investigations of project sites including wetland and stream delineations, erosion and sediment control inspections, and task and/or project management. The ideal candidate will be flexible and self-motivated with a high attention to detail, have strong verbal and written communication skills, be highly organized, and be capable of working in a diverse team environment and handling multiple tasks with competing priorities.
Specific duties may include the following:
  • Perform and/or lead field investigations of projects sites including but not limited to delineations of streams, wetlands and other Waters of the US with functional assessments according to applicable methodologies, water quality sampling, and Phase I Environmental Site Assessments.
  • Perform GPS field mapping, post processing, and distribution of GPS-mapped resources in multiple formats.
  • Perform erosion and sediment control inspections and other site inspections, record and convey field observations accurately, communicate observations with contractors, clients, and regulatory parties.
  • Evaluate impacts from construction and other types of projects on the natural environment and identify opportunities for avoiding and minimizing potential impacts to wetlands, streams, and other resources.
  • Prepare written and visual documentation and technical reports detailing the findings of ecological surveys.
  • Coordinate with local, state, and/or federal agencies, including but not limited to the US Army Corps of Engineers (USACE) and Georgia Environmental Protection Division (EPD).
  • Coordinate with field staff, task managers, projects managers, and other project staff to deliver quality work on time and on budget.
  • Perform work in a team environment or work independently with multiple project budgets and deadlines simultaneously.
  • Effectively manage tasks and/or projects by communicating with teams, managing clients or stakeholders, mitigating risks, monitoring budgets and schedules, and delivering high quality work products.
  • Support business development pursuits related to client opportunities including preparing proposals and statements of qualifications, attend client meetings, and attend and/or present technical information at conferences.
  • Participate in improving company resources and tools to improve production and efficiency.
  • Drive health and safety practices throughout all aspects of work.
  • Implement DEC’s quality assurance/quality control (QA/QC) processes.

Desired Skills/Experience:
  • B.S. or M.S. degree in natural resources, environmental science, biology, ecology, or related science.
  • Proven experience within a professional ecological career with 3+ years of experience with a B.S. degree or 2+ years of experience with a M.S. degree. Environmental consulting experience preferred.
  • Professional Wetland Scientist (PWS) or Wetland Professional In-Training (WPIT) certification is preferred but not required.
  • Level 1a (or higher) certification with the Georgia Soil and Water Conservation Commission (GSWCC) is preferred but not required.
  • Ability to delineate wetlands and other waters of the US using the appropriate regional supplements to the USACE Wetland Delineation Manual.
  • Demonstrable skills and experience of field surveys and assessments and erosion and sediment control inspections.
  • Professional experience with federal and state environmental permitting, including but not limited to USACE Individual and/or Nationwide Permits (NWPs), Georgia EPD NPDES Permits, Georgia EPD Stream Buffer Variances.
  • Working knowledge of relevant state and federal legislation and policy with a special emphasis on Clean Water Act (CWA) Sections 401/404.
  • Working knowledge of erosion and sediment control and best management practices (BMPs).
  • Working knowledge of ArcGIS Pro and GPS technology. ArcGIS Experience Builder and Dashboard experience is a plus.
  • Project management skills and experience including developing budgets and project schedules, team collaboration, QA/QC, and project delivery.
  • Proficiency in Microsoft Word, Excel, PowerPoint, Outlook, and Teams.
  • Ability to work independently, and collaboratively, to prepare reports, and communicate effectively within a multi-disciplinary team.
  • Ability to conduct field work safely, wear appropriate PPE, and remain alert around equipment.
  • Ability to work for short periods of time in extreme temperatures including heat and cold.
  • Ability to stand for several hours observing and documenting.
  • Excellent organization and oral/written communications skills required.
  • Marketing, proposal writing and management, and public presentation experience preferred.
  • Candidate must have current driver's license and good driving record.
  • Some field assignments require travel with overnight stay outside the Atlanta area.
  • Preference will be given to candidates with field investigation and permitting experience with linear utilities (natural gas, water, sewer, and/or electrical transmission).

This position is a hybrid role: field work (50%), work from Dramby or remote offices (50%). The salary listed is a range and is commensurate with qualifications and experience.
