Who We Are Four years ago, Dragonfruit set out to bring together some of the most talented visual storytellers, viral video strategists, and big-name clients, to change the way we create and consume on YouTube. Since then, we’ve generated over a billion organic views and hundreds of millions of subscribers for creators like MrBeast, Ali Abdaal, Mark Manson, Chris Williamson, Codie Sanchez, and organizations like Y Combinator, e.l.f. Beauty, WHOOP, ClickUp, and the Center for Humane Technology. We’re not here to chase cheap clicks — we’re here to make YouTube smarter. Why This Role Matters We’re looking for an Executive Creative Director (ECD) to raise the bar across everything we produce. This is a hands-on creative leadership role — a captain on the field, not in the stands — for someone who can articulate a clear formula for what makes a YouTube video succeed at both the individual video and channel level, and scale that standard across teams. You will be responsible for running the Creative Director function , ensuring our output is consistently best-in-class across ideation, scripting, packaging, and post-publication performance. The Role As Executive Creative Director , you own the creative quality of all deliverables through the Creative Director team. Your core focus areas:
Creative Quality Across All Deliverables
Creative Director Development
Creative Standards & Accountability
You are the final layer of creative accountability — ensuring that ideas are strong, execution is sharp, and performance is continuously improving. What You’ll Do
Live Inside the Work — spend your day reviewing client scripts, thumbnails, packaging, and edit notes. You are hands-on with the deliverables, not reviewing them from a distance
Own Creative Quality Across Clients — ensure every video meets a high bar across ideation, scripting, packaging, and execution
Develop Creative Directors — coach and mentor CDs to improve taste, judgment, and output quality
Set & Enforce Creative Standards — define what "great" looks like and ensure it is consistently met across all teams
Review & Elevate High-Priority Work — step in to refine and improve key deliverables where quality is critical
Improve Core Creative Disciplines — strengthen how we approach titles, thumbnails, storytelling, retention, and post-publication optimization
Drive Creative Consistency — ensure alignment on quality across all clients and Creative Directors
Skills and Qualifications
7+ years of experience in YouTube, digital media, or content as a Creative Director, Lead Creative, or equivalent
Proven track record of creating high-performing content and scaling creative across multiple channels or clients
360-degree YouTube mastery — you must be equally strong in packaging (titles, thumbnails, CTR) AND retention (average view duration, percentage viewed) AND storytelling. Many strong candidates excel at one or two of these; this role requires all three. Not every piece in your portfolio needs to demonstrate all three, but you as an individual must be capable of all three
Strong ability to coach and develop Creative Directors
A clear, articulable framework for YouTube success — you can explain concisely and specifically what drives video performance and channel growth, at both the micro (single video) and macro (channel strategy) level
High creative standards and strong taste — knows what great looks like and how to get there
