About Our Firm
de la Peña & Holiday, LLP is an established and growing national full-service litigation and transactional law firm headquartered in the heart of Downtown San Francisco. Our experienced legal team provides deeply personalized services to businesses, insurance companies, and individuals, addressing their unique needs regardless of case size.
While we maintain the tight-knit, collaborative culture of a specialized boutique, our bench possesses extensive expertise in complex, multiparty cases involving massive financial exposure and high-profile public relations concerns. We routinely handle matters with regional, national, or global impact—including high-profile litigation resolved for up to $100 million.
Company culture is central to who we are, and we are deeply committed to maintaining a workplace where our team genuinely enjoys working. We strive to be a supportive environment void of standard firm politics. We leverage elite, modern technology to streamline workflows, making the job easier for everyone and allowing our employees the full flexibility to work remotely from anywhere in California. Our enterprise tech stack includes iManage, Coyote Analytics, CompuLaw, and top-tier litigation tools.
The Position & The Workspace
We are seeking an experienced Litigation Paralegal based in California to support attorneys by preparing and reviewing legal documents, conducting legal research, and assisting with pleadings and motions. To support our team's diverse needs, this role offers complete workplace flexibility: you may choose to work fully remote (anywhere in California), fully in the office, or in a customized hybrid model. This opening is available as a stable, permanent position, with compensation carefully structured to match your exact level of experience.
Because our firm structures paralegals to maintain direct continuity on case files rather than being tethered to a single attorney, you will own the institutional history of your files. You will act as a critical strategic anchor, bringing our remote legal teams up to speed and driving files smoothly from inception through trial.
Why This Role is Different: Our Case Continuity Model
We know why litigation paralegals burn out: they are often treated as reactive, temporary help shuffled back and forth between constantly changing attorney demands. We view our paralegal team as the strategic backbone of our files:
  • True Case Ownership: Our paralegals are assigned directly to cases for institutional continuity, not to individual attorneys. You hold the history of the file and act as the core anchor, bringing our remote legal teams up to speed.
  • Eliminating the Admin Grind: We maintain a supportive ratio of legal assistants to handle basic secretarial filing and scanning tasks, freeing you up to focus on high-level substantive drafting, analysis, and strategy.
  • Firm-Wide Tech Integration: We invest heavily in advanced platforms like iManage and CompuLaw so you aren't fighting outdated systems or broken remote servers.

Responsibilities
  • Manage complex civil litigation case files with a high degree of organizational oversight.
  • Handle all aspects of legal document preparation, heavy document review, and file indexing.
  • Draft and review complex pleadings, motions, and comprehensive discovery responses.
  • Conduct focused legal research, including case law, statutory analysis, and medical/municipal records review.
  • Support trial preparation, coordinate exhibit logs, and assist attorneys during the trial phase.
  • Coordinate seamlessly with attorneys, legal assistants, and clients to ensure flawless case management.

Requirements & Qualifications
  • Paralegal certification from an ABA-approved program or equivalent substantive civil litigation experience preferred.
  • Strong proficiency in legal document preparation, document review, and drafting pleadings/motions under California civil procedure rules.
  • Excellent organizational and multitasking abilities to manage complex, multiparty case files.
  • Sharp attention to detail and a proven ability to meet strict statutory deadlines under pressure.
  • Experience utilizing case management and time-tracking systems (such as Coyote Analytics, iManage, Westlaw, or CompuLaw) is highly preferred.

Compensation, Hours, and the 401(k) Match
  • Benefits: Full firm-sponsored PPO/HMO health plans with buy-up options (Kaiser & Blue Shield of California), dental, and vision. NO EMPLOYEE CONTRIBUTION FOR EMPLOYEE BENEFITS.
  • Financial Protection: The firm provides a fully sponsored $50,000 life insurance policy to all employees, a benefit we proudly established to ensure our team has continuous peace of mind.
  • Retirement: We currently offer a corporate 401(k) retirement plan featuring a 3% Safe Harbor Non-Elective contribution, funded entirely by the firm and 100% immediately vested from Day 1.
  • Travel: For those utilizing our Downtown San Francisco office or a hybrid model, the firm provides pre-tax commuter checks to help offset local transit expenses. If you travel to assist our legal teams at a live trial, the firm fully covers all lodging, flight, and travel accommodations.
