About the role

Job Summary
We are seeking a strategic and hands-on data science and analytics leader to build and lead the data and analytics function for a growing biotech organization preparing to launch a hydrocortisone acetate therapy for ulcerative colitis.
Primary Relationships
  • Within Cristcot, the Director, Data Science & Commercial Analytics will collaborate closely with Sales, Commercial Operations, Marketing, Market Access, Medical Affairs, and the Executive Team.
  • Outside Cristcot, the Director, Data Science & Commercial Analytics will engage with external vendors.

Primary Job Responsibilities
The Director, Data Science & Commercial Analytics will be responsible for standing up the end-to-end data and technology environment, enabling commercial insights, and driving data-informed decision-making across the organization.
The activities of the Director, Data Science & Commercial Analytics will include, but are not limited to:
Build the Data & Technology Ecosystem
  • Design, develop and implement the company’s data architecture from the ground up (data ingestion, storage, transformation, and access layers)
  • Evaluate and select appropriate tools and platforms (e.g., data warehouses, ETL pipelines, BI tools, CRM integrations)
  • Establish scalable, compliant, and secure data infrastructure aligned with biotech/pharma regulations (HIPAA, GDPR where applicable)
  • Define data governance frameworks, including data quality, stewardship, and access controls

Commercial Data Strategy & Enablement
  • Identify, acquire, and integrate critical data sources to support commercial operations, including:
  • Patient claims (medical & pharmacy)
  • Prescription (Rx) data
  • Electronic health records (EHR)
  • Provider-level data
  • Specialty pharmacy and hub services data
  • Payer and formulary data
  • Translate commercial strategy into data requirements and analytics solutions
  • Build datasets and data models tailored to key business questions (e.g., patient journey, targeting, segmentation)

Analytics & Insights Generation
  • Develop and lead analytics to support:
  • Launch planning and performance tracking
  • Sales force effectiveness and targeting
  • Patient identification and adherence patterns
  • Market access and payer strategy
  • Create dashboards, KPIs, and reporting frameworks for executive and commercial stakeholders
  • Apply advanced analytics (predictive modeling, segmentation, forecasting) to inform decision-making

Cross-Functional Partnership
  • Act as a strategic partner to Commercial leadership to align analytics with brand objectives
  • Collaborate with IT, Medical Affairs, Market Access, and Finance to ensure integrated data use
  • Translate complex data insights into actionable business recommendations

Leadership & Execution
  • Manage external vendors (data providers, analytics partners, consultants)
  • Operate both as a strategic leader and a hands-on contributor in a fast-paced environment

Skills and Qualifications:
  • Advanced degree preferred (Master’s or Ph.D.), but no less than Bachelor’s degree in data science, business, psychology, statistics, economics, mathematics, life sciences, computer science, or a related field that requires data analytics skill
  • 8–12+ years of experience in data science, analytics, or commercial data roles within biotech/pharma
  • Proven experience building data infrastructure and analytics capabilities from scratch
  • Deep understanding of healthcare data ecosystems (claims, Rx, EHR, specialty pharmacy, etc.)
  • Experience supporting commercial launches, preferably in specialty or GI therapeutics
  • Strong proficiency in SQL, Python/R, and BI tools (e.g., Tableau, Power BI)
  • Experience with cloud-based data platforms (e.g., AWS, Azure, GCP)
  • Experience in ulcerative colitis, gastroenterology, or specialty therapeutics preferred
  • Knowledge of patient journey analytics and rare/specialty disease commercialization preferred
  • Experience working in pre-commercial or early-launch biotech environments preferred
  • Strategic thinking with strong execution capabilities
  • Ability to translate business needs into data solutions
  • Strong communication skills with both technical and non-technical stakeholders
  • Entrepreneurial mindset; comfortable with ambiguity and building from zero
  • High level of ownership and accountability
  • Priority consideration will be given to applicants who reside within the Central and Eastern time zones
  • Ability to travel up to 10%
