Company Description Our client is a Memphis-based registered investment advisor with a proven track record serving high-net-worth families, family offices, and institutional clients. The firm has reached an inflection point. They are bringing on their first full-time technologist to lead the effort, alongside Clear Function as their senior engineering partner. This is a founding role with direct access to firm leadership, real budget authority, and the latitude to define what a modern investment operating system looks like. Experience profile:
5–10 years experience, ideally with at least 2 years in fintech, wealthtech, or financial services
Has shipped at least one production AI/LLM feature in the last 18 months (not just experimented — shipped)
Has worked in both a small/startup environment (autonomy, range) AND somewhere with engineering process (code review, deployment discipline).
Core technical capabilities (must-have):
Full-stack web development (modern stack: TypeScript/React, Python or Node backend, Postgres)
Data engineering — ETL, schema design, working with messy real-world data (manager portals, statements, custodian feeds)
AI/LLM fluency — RAG, agents, prompt engineering, embeddings, evals. Should be able to discuss tradeoffs between self-hosted vs. API models.
Cloud infrastructure (AWS or Azure)
Strong opinions on data security, IAM, and SOC 2 — or at least conversant
Soft skills (deal-breakers if missing):
Can sit with Client and discuss requirements and design solutions
Comfortable with executives
Self-starter with high tolerance for ambiguity (they'll be alone most of the time)
