Basic Function Under supervision, performs skilled technical and field work related to the Citys utility metering and data systems. Maintains, troubleshoots, and repairs smart meter network components; installs and tests utility meters; and assists the Utility Billing Office with meter data verification, customer inquiries, and usage analysis. Essential Duties And Responsibilities
Installs, programs, tests, and maintains automated meter reading
(AMR/AMI) equipment and related communication hardware.
Diagnoses and repairs connectivity or data transmission issues
within the smart meter network.
Performs field inspections and verifies meter accuracy, detecting
leaks, tampering, or faulty devices.
Coordinates with IT and Utility Billing staff to ensure accurate and
timely meter data integration.
Responds to customer inquiries regarding meter performance, usage,
and billing discrepancies in a courteous, professional manner.
Maintains detailed service records, system logs, and reports for
maintenance and billing verification.
Performs other related duties as assigned.
Qualifications
Knowledge of AMI/AMR technology and utility metering systems.
Ability to use diagnostic tools, handheld meter-reading devices, and
data management software.
Ability to interpret maps, schematics, and technical manuals.
Ability to communicate clearly and maintain effective relationships
with coworkers, supervisors, and the public.
Ability to follow oral and written instructions and perform work
independently with minimal supervision. Education and Experience
High school diploma or GED required.
One year of experience in utility maintenance, meter installation,
or a related technical field preferred. Special Requirements
A valid Kansas drivers license
Physical Requirements
Moderate to occasional heavy physical effort required. Must be able
to sit, stand, kneel, stoop, climb, reach, and lift up to 50 lbs. Working Conditions
Work performed indoors and outdoors under varying weather
conditions.
Exposure to electrical and mechanical hazards requires adherence to
established safety procedures.
Occasional evening or weekend work may be required for system
maintenance or emergencies. NOTE: Final applicants will submit to a drug and background screenings.
