**About The Role**

We’re looking for someone to tell the story of Basis, the company.

You'll define how the world sees Basis. We're creating new categories at the intersection of AI and accounting, which means there's no playbook to follow. You'll establish our voice and figure out the stories we’re uniquely positioned to tell.

We like to write publicly (see here, here, and here) but we don’t do it nearly often enough. We need a Narratives & Comms lead who will change that, crafting a company narrative that stands out - especially to best-in-class ML/eng talent.

We want to be a generational company and need a brand that reflects that.

**Frontier of applied AI**

We’re building at the frontier of applied AI, and we’re one of the few application layer companies whose agents are actually deployed into firms, doing real work. Basis is leading the charge in converting raw model intelligence into economic productivity.

Few startups are doing this at all; none are doing it in an industry as critical as accounting.

**Centrality of accounting**

Accounting is the grammar of our financial economy. It is how the complexity of the real world is compressed into legible financial data, which individuals and firms use to make decisions. The quality of accounting directly impacts the overall quality of economic decision making.

**Working in the real economy**

By vastly improving the quality of accounting, we want to arm individuals and firms with more robust, real-time financial data, and create a world where better decisions are made.

Right now, that means arming accountants with teams of agents that take on their most laborious/manual tasks, guiding them towards a real-time close, and unlocking insights that would have otherwise remained hidden.

In the future, it could mean ushering in a world where there is a 1000x increase in accounting, and a commensurate increase in the quality of decision making.

**What We Look For**

- Excellent writer: Crafts compelling narratives and writes extraordinarily well. Ideally has a corpus of public writing.

- First principles reasoner: Able to break complex technical problems down into fundamental components and communicate them clearly.

- Understands the zeitgeist: Knows what best-in-class engineers/technologists think, read, care about, etc. Likely active on X and/or Substack.

- Taste and judgment: Feels what resonates and what falls flat, can distinguish between authentic versus packaged messaging.

- All-in: This is not a 9-5, we have a massive opportunity ahead of us and are looking to further accelerate our velocity. We are optimizing for the best folks and happy to compensate generously

**About The Role**

Modern AI lets software ~~reason ~~ in real time. That overturns decades of UX assumptions. A chatbot bolted onto old workflows won’t cut it; we need interfaces where humans and agents co-create work, hand tasks back and forth, and build trust in real time.

You will lead Basis into that design unknown: design both the screens accountants see ~~and ~~ the invisible UI “toolbox” agents draw from when they assemble those screens.

Imagine Basis 18 months out, then ship toward it one release at a time.

📍 **Location **: NYC, Flatiron office. In-person team.

**What You'll Do**

- Build

- Design and redesign user-agent interactions across multiple surfaces, from first sketch to polished release

- Invent agent-ready UI primitives that agents can assemble, edit, and explain in real time

- Partner closely with product design on working agents seamlessly into new and existing products

- Be a visionary: Pair with founders to sketch Basis 2027, then distill it into quarterly bets

- Understand our many accounting users: Building really good systems here start from deep user empathy. You will spend a portion of your time actually doing accounting work in Basis and becoming a user

- Learn at warp speed: Immerse in what makes accounting awesome, emergent abilities of LLMs, and various UX for generally-intelligent software, then turn that insight into product decisions

- Learning velocity: New domains (hello, accounting!) and new tech click for you in weeks, not months.

**What You'll Bring**

- Experience: 4–8 years designing complex SaaS or AI tooling, with at least one 0→1 launch (extraordinary talent with fewer years considered).

- First-principles reasoner: You break problems to fundamentals and rebuild without legacy bias.

- Agent-native builder: You already prototype with LLMs and can explain why they change UX.

- Use AI a lot: You should be using AI for your own work a ton. To learn, brainstorm, write, research etc.

- Research-to-Figma range: Comfortable running user research sessions, planning new features with PMs & engineers, sketching flows live, exploring diverse design solutions, and iterating on released products.

- All-in mindset: High-intensity culture, high-upside equity, and a wide-open canvas sound perfect.

**What We’d Love To See**

- Accounting: Practical knowledge of accounting principles.

- Product ownership: Experience owning a product end-to-end

**What You’ll Be Doing**

In this role, you will own the full sales cycle—from prospecting and generating initial interest to closing deals—while coordinating closely with customer success, solutions/technical teams, and external partners such as integrators. You’ll manage complex, multi-stakeholder opportunities; develop detailed business plans to hit goals and quotas; and build executive-level relationships across industries to close strategic partnerships.

As we scale, you’ll shape our sales process by codifying playbooks and best practices, and help build the GTM team by interviewing and mentoring future sellers.

📍 Location: NYC, Flatiron office. In-person team.

**What You’ll Bring**

- 3+ years of quota-carrying sales experience selling complex B2B software in mid-market or enterprise segments

- Proven track record of success (President's Club or equivalent preferred)

- Bachelor's degree or equivalent practical experience

- Enterprise relationship building: Experience developing relationships with C-suite executives and senior decision makers

- Ability to work in office in Manhattan 5 days per week

**What We’d Love To See**

- Finance Experience: Accounting, FP&A, investment banking, private equity, or venture capital

- Sold accounting/finance software into the office of the CFO

- Startup experience: Background at high-growth companies during scale phases
