Mechanical Engineering — AI Data Trainer About The Role We partner with the world's leading AI research teams and labs to build and train cutting-edge AI models. Now we're looking for mechanical engineers to help us make those models smarter, more rigorous, and technically trustworthy. Your deep expertise in fluid dynamics, thermodynamics, structural mechanics, and related disciplines will be used to challenge, stress-test, and refine how advanced AI systems reason through real engineering problems. This is a unique opportunity to apply your technical knowledge in a completely new domain — and directly influence the next generation of AI.
Organization: Alignerr
Type: Hourly Contract
Location: Remote
Commitment: 10–40 hours/week
What You'll Do
Design Complex Engineering Problems — Craft advanced, multi-step problems across domains like FEA (Finite Element Analysis), heat transfer, kinematics, thermodynamics, and material science to rigorously test AI performance.
Author Ground-Truth Solutions — Write detailed, step-by-step technical solutions and benchmark responses that AI models use as the gold standard for learning.
Audit Technical Reasoning — Evaluate AI-generated outputs — including CAD logic, thermodynamic proofs, and material specifications — for accuracy, safety, and adherence to engineering standards (e.g., ASME, ISO).
Refine AI Reasoning — Identify logical errors such as incorrect force distributions, energy conservation violations, or flawed assumptions, and provide structured feedback to improve how the model thinks.
Who You Are
Advanced Degree — Master's (pursuing or completed) or PhD in Mechanical Engineering, Aerospace Engineering, or a closely related field.
Domain Expertise — Strong foundational knowledge in one or more core areas: solid mechanics, fluid mechanics, heat transfer, CAD/CAM, or manufacturing processes.
Clear Technical Communicator — Able to explain complex physical phenomena and mathematical reasoning in clear, structured written form.
Detail-Oriented — High precision when checking derivations, unit conversions, boundary conditions, and physical constraints.
No AI experience required — if you know engineering, we can teach you the rest.
Nice to Have
Prior experience with data annotation, data quality, or evaluation workflows
Proficiency in engineering software such as SolidWorks, MATLAB, or ANSYS
Familiarity with how large language models (LLMs) are trained or evaluated
