About the role

Mathematics Researcher (Masters/PhDs) - AI Training
About The Role
What if your expertise in advanced mathematics could directly shape how AI reasons, solves problems, and understands the world? We're looking for Mathematics Researchers with graduate-level credentials to help build and refine the mathematical reasoning capabilities of cutting-edge AI models.
This is a fully remote, flexible contract role. You'll work asynchronously alongside world-class AI research teams — applying deep mathematical knowledge to problems that actually matter at scale.
  • Organization: Alignerr
  • Type: Hourly Contract
  • Location: Remote
  • Commitment: 10–40 hours/week

What You'll Do
  • Develop, solve, and critically review advanced mathematical problems with real-world relevance
  • Design complex problem statements drawing on your expertise in algebra, calculus, statistics, discrete mathematics, or related fields
  • Evaluate the mathematical reasoning and outputs of AI models for rigor, accuracy, and depth
  • Collaborate asynchronously with AI researchers and domain experts to identify gaps and improve model performance
  • Ensure all deliverables meet high standards of mathematical clarity, precision, and correctness

Who You Are
  • Holder of a Master's or PhD in Mathematics or a closely related field
  • Deeply proficient in one or more of: algebra, calculus, statistics, or discrete mathematics
  • Experienced with Python, MATLAB, or Mathematica for research or technical projects
  • A clear, precise communicator — able to articulate complex ideas in writing with accuracy and care
  • Self-directed and reliable when working independently on structured tasks
  • Based in the U.S., Canada, U.K., Australia, or New Zealand

Nice to Have
  • Prior experience with data annotation, data quality assessment, or AI evaluation workflows
  • Background in applied mathematics, mathematical modeling, or computational research
  • Familiarity with AI or machine learning concepts at a technical level
  • Experience writing or reviewing academic mathematical content

Why Join Us
  • Work directly on frontier AI projects alongside leading research labs and top AI teams
  • Fully remote and flexible — structure your hours around your life, not the other way around
  • Freelance autonomy with the substance of genuinely challenging, high-level work
  • Apply your graduate expertise in a domain where it creates measurable, lasting impact
  • Potential for ongoing work and contract extension as new AI training projects launch
