**Duties**

As a Mathematical Analyst, you will conduct cutting-edge research in mathematical modeling and Topological Data Analysis (TDA), focusing on high-dimensional biological and chemical datasets. You will apply topological frameworks to both experimental measurements and computational simulations to solve complex measurement science challenges. Major duties are: Conduct Advanced TDA Research: Perform mathematical modeling and research applying Topological Data Analysis (TDA) to interpret complex, high-dimensional biological and chemical datasets. Analyze Simulation and Measurement Data: Model and process diverse data types, including empirical measurements, molecular dynamics trajectories, and Markov Chain Monte Carlo (MCMC) simulations. Resolve Chemometric and Biosensor Challenges: Apply TDA techniques to diverse modalities, including BioFET time-series instrument outputs, chemical forensics via mass spectrometry, and PFAS/monoclonal antibody classifications. Collaborate on Cross-Disciplinary Projects: Engage with multidisciplinary NIST scientists to contribute mathematical expertise to mission-critical, agency-wide research initiatives. Disseminate Scientific Findings: Author and publish research results in peer-reviewed manuscripts, and deliver technical talks and presentations at scientific conferences.

**Qualifications**

Basic Requirements: A. Degree: mathematics, or the equivalent of a major that included at least 24 semester hours in mathematics. OR B. Combination of education and experience -- courses equivalent to a major in mathematics (including at least 24 semester hours in mathematics), as shown in A above, plus appropriate experience or additional education. The total coursework in either A or B above must have included differential and integral calculus and, in addition, four advanced mathematics courses requiring calculus or equivalent mathematics courses as a prerequisite. In addition to the above basic requirements, all applicants must have one year (52 weeks) of specialized experience equivalent to at least the GS-9 level (ZP-II at NIST). The specialized experience is defined as: Experience applying Topological Data Analysis (TDA) Experience utilizing computational methods and workflows to process, analyze, and interpret biophysical, biological, or chemical data generated from molecular dynamics trajectories or Markov Chain Monte Carlo (MCMC) simulations. Experience with contributing to complex scientific research projects by collaborating across technical disciplines (e.g., mathematics, biology, chemistry). **The Opportunity**

Black & Veatch is seeking a Senior Instrumentation & Controls professional to lead major nuclear / power generation projects with teams of I&C engineers and assist in the technical design, procurement, planning and coordination for Power Plants.

Black & Veatch (B&V) is engaged in a variety of engineering and design activities in support of the addition of power plants in North America and around the world including Small Modular Reactors (SMR). This work entails studies, procurement, design for power plants including the Balance of Plant systems required for support. Instrumentation and controls professionals are needed to work as part of our team. Professionals will be integrated into our existing teams based on their expertise and experience.

In this role, you will have the opportunity to:

- Work directly with the project team to generate engineering design documents and deliverables for systems related to the power plant (logics, network architecture diagrams, instrument lists, I/O Lists, instrument installation details, schematics and wiring drawings, calculations, studies, technical specifications, etc.).

- Lead major projects, teams, supervise and mentor lower-level engineers, review and provide oversight of their work or assignments.

- Previous I&C design experience for large scale power plants.

- Experience in developing control system network architecture diagrams, I/O list, instrument data sheets, control narratives, control logic diagrams, Piping and Instrumentation Diagrams (P&IDs) for control and instrumentation, and procurement specifications for I&C equipment.

- Experience in instrumentation and process automation systems applications and selection.

- Excellent writing, presentation, and verbal communication skills.

- Ability to be both an individual contributor and work effectively in teams.

- Ability to accept both internal and external (client) feedback.

- Willingness to learn processes and procedures specific to the power industry.

- Maintain some flexibility in work hours, if required by the client or project.

Requires a bachelor's degree in engineering from either a recognized accredited program in their home country or the country in which the professional is practicing or equivalent experience in Engineering work. Minimum of 11 years related work experience.
