**Key Responsibilities**

- Work involves a variety of the following duties but is not all inclusive: replace broken hardware in a barracks room, working on signage, replacing electrical receptacles, wires, switches, fixtures, and motors, using plaster or compound to patch minor holes and cracks in walls and ceilings, repairing or replacing sinks, water coolers, and toilets

- Repair or replace defective equipment parts and reassemble equipment

- Perform routine preventive maintenance to ensure that machines continue to run smoothly, building systems operate efficiently, or the physical condition of buildings does not deteriorate

- Assemble, install, or repair wiring, electrical or electronic components, pipe systems, plumbing, machinery, or equipment

- Order parts, supplies, and equipment from catalogs and suppliers, or obtain them from storerooms

- Perform general cleaning of buildings or properties

- Perform other related duties as assigned

**Essential Skills**

- Use tools ranging from common hand and power tools, such as hammers, hoists, saws, drills, and wrenches, to precision measuring instruments and electrical and electronic testing devices

- Adjust functional parts of devices or control instruments- use hand tools, levels, plumb bobs, or straightedges

- Knowledge of methods, materials, tools, and equipment used in both rough and finished carpentry in COMMERCIAL/INDUSTRIAL settings- such as applicable building and safety code requirements and methods and practices followed in the maintenance of tools, machinery, and equipment

- Knowledge of building architectural/structural elements - including alterations and repairs

- Adaptable and flexible in work situations

- Establish priorities to ensure completion of tasks in a timely manner

- PRACTICES WORKPLACE SAFETY in the use of tools, equipment, and supplies - Including proper use of personal protective equipment (PPE)

- High school diploma or equivalent

- 2+ years related experience and/or formal vocational/technical training in a variety of building and/or utility trades

**Job Overview**

Under direction of the Facility Supervisor, the General Maintenance Worker will provide the daily maintenance operations and activities for all assigned facilities. The incumbent receives and evaluates work orders and requests, investigates requests or problems where appropriate and completes the necessary repairs.

**Pay Rate: $31.16/ hour**

**Responsibilities**

**Essential Job Duties:**

- The General Maintenance Worker will operate, maintain, repair, and install equipment, components, and systems that support the facility and infrastructure.

- Work involves planning and layout of work from blueprints, drawings, models, and verbal and written instructions.

- Uses a variety of hand tools, portable power tools, and standard measuring instruments.

- Plan, organize work, and meet all deadlines. Able to do a variety of tasks in any single day.

- Coordinates with other trade personnel and the warehouse personnel in the identification of proper and correct materials, parts assemblies, and requirements for a variety of requisitions necessary for the job/task.

- Respond to emergency site maintenance as required.

- Able to inspect and diagnose problems to determine corrective repairs.

- Perform on call and preventive maintenance duties as necessary.

- Help perform periodic stock inventories and prepare material requisitions for replacement items as required.

- May occasionally be required to operate Government or Chugach owned motor vehicles and/or other equipment.

- Will be required to perform various lower classified duties such as (but not limited to) file maintenance, workspace cleanup, maintain warehouse space and telephone answering as required.

- Supports and assists other department staff and trade groups as needed or directed.

- Adheres to the established Chugach safety, personnel policies and standard operating procedures.

- Ability to work overtime as needed.

- Performs other duties as assigned.

**Job Requirements**

**Mandatory:**

- High school graduate or equivalent GED.

- At least two (2) years of experience performing maintenance in a Facilities environment.

- Must have general working knowledge of mechanical, (electric doors, gates and closures), electrical, plumbing, carpentry (framing, decking and railings).

- Familiarity with basic mathematical functions is required.

- Good working knowledge of hand and power tools.

- Ability to deal with a variety of people in a professional, courteous manner in diversified situations.

- Mature judgment and ability to work with minimal supervision.

- Ability to pass a pre-hire background and drug screen.

- U.S. Citizenship.

- Ability to obtain and maintain the required intelligence community level clearance.

- Valid state driver’s license with acceptable driving record.

**Preferred:**

- Trade certifications in mechanical, electrical, plumbing and/or carpentry.

- Competency in Excel, Word and Outlook.

**Physical Requirements:**

- Ability to lift 50 pounds and team lift 75 pounds.
