Staff Accountant

Job BriefWe are looking for a Staff Accountant to contribute to maintaining accurate financials within our Accounting department. This position will report directly to the Controller and plays a key role in helping the company concentrate on Accounting Lean initiatives.

The following bullet(s) describe the essence of this role:

- A key part of the accounting team, the Staff Accountant will perform a variety of accounting functions and also look for ways to improve efficiencies and identify waste.

- Ensures the accuracy, integrity and timeliness of financial data to be used in the planning and decision-making of our organization.

The following bullets describe typical daily and weekly activities of this role:

- Prepare monthly balance sheets, income statements, and cash flow statements.

- Learning and covering both Accounts Payable and Accounts Receivable positions, providing full support and suggesting ways to improve processes

- File shipping claims and follow up to ensure receipt of refunds

- Code invoices, set up new accounts, reconcile accounts, and close the monthly books.

- Reconcile bank accounts at least monthly, verify deposits, and address inquiries from banks.

- Verifies and/or completes payment of invoices associated with accounts payable and ensures payments are charged to the appropriate accounts.

- Coordinate with software vendors to maintain accounting software systems; recommend updates to enhance the accounting software.

- Maintain knowledge of acceptable accounting practices and procedures.

- Performs duties with the utmost confidentiality

Required Qualifications for this role:

- Associate’s or Bachelor’s Degree in Accounting Required

- Advanced knowledge of Excel

Preferred Qualifications for this role:

- Experience with Sage or other accounting software

- Experience with Microsoft Office and Google Docs
