**The Role **

We are seeking a skilled Microscopy Engineer to refine an existing oblique line-scan (OLS) microscope design, co-develop a user-friendly instrument platform, and deploy systems in academic laboratories across the United States. You will translate advanced microscopy technology into robust, accessible tools that empower the broader research community.

**Key Responsibilities **

- Build, test, and refine prototype OLS microscopes based on an existing design, collaborating closely with partner labs at UC Berkeley and Johns Hopkins University.

- Develop comprehensive standard operating procedures covering instrument installation, optical alignment, calibration, maintenance, and troubleshooting.

- Work with software engineers to streamline hardware–software integration and deliver a cohesive, intuitive user experience.

- Construct and deploy additional OLS systems in partner academic laboratories across the U.S.

- Provide ongoing technical support and hands-on troubleshooting for academic end users.

- Contribute to training materials and documentation to ensure long-term adoption and independent operation by research groups.

**Desired Qualifications **

- Hands-on experience with optical systems and/or custom microscope construction.

- Proficiency with microscopy control platforms such as Micro-Manager or Nikon Elements.

- Strong problem-solving skills with rigorous attention to technical detail.

- Excellent written and verbal communication skills, with the ability to document procedures clearly.

- Experience training or supporting technical users in a laboratory setting is highly valued.**★ Preferred **

This position is embedded within UC Berkeley, one of the world's leading research universities. CxT Discovery has established a deep institutional partnership with Berkeley, and this role will be physically based on campus—giving you direct access to world-class core facilities, seminar series, and a vibrant community of researchers pushing the frontiers of cell biology, biophysics, and imaging technology. You will collaborate closely with the labs of Xavier Darzacq and Robert Tjian at UC Berkeley and Thomas Graham at Johns Hopkins University, working at the interface of instrument development and cutting-edge biological research.

**Benefits and Compensation: **

The anticipated salary range for fully qualified candidates applying for this role will be $90,000 – $130,000 annually (not including discretionary bonus and benefits). The final salary offered will be dependent on several factors that include but are not limited to relevant previous experience including duration and type of experience within the industry and education.
