Reporting to the Research Area Specialist, Lead, this role operates with considerable latitude and independent decision-making authority within a recognized research unit.

Implement plan(s) according to established deadlines.

- Design and layout departmental annual newsletters. SLL is sent by early July and early January; GLL is sent by the end of May and early December.

- Follow all U-M, LSA and departmental brand guidelines in the development of print materials.

- Design logos and other graphic identifiers as needed for specific events and programs.

- Utilize U-M preferred vendors for printing, coordinate printing bids for all projects and ensure cost effectiveness.

- Ensure all design files are formatted and compressed per vendor guidelines to ensure high quality printing and visual presentation.

Event Planning and Implementation -15%

- Organize and coordinate in-person and virtual logistics in collaboration with faculty and staff stakeholders for a wide range of departmental events including but not limited to, catering, venues, flights, lodging, transportation, audio/visual and IT needs, and honorarium payments. Provide in-person coverage for events, as needed. Set up and break down all events.

Purpose

To provide nursing care and support to the adult hemodialysis patient with acute kidney injury (AKI) or end stage renal disease (ESRD). The D. Dan and Betty Kahn Health Care Pavilion is a 12-story hospital that will house 264 private rooms capable of converting to intensive care; a state-of-the-art neurosciences center; and high-level, specialty care services for cardiovascular and thoracic patients, along with advanced imaging. The 690,000-square-foot hospital which also features 20 surgical and three interventional radiology suites is being constructed adjacent to the Frankel Cardiovascular Center, with plans for bridge and tunnel connections to existing inpatient care facilities.

Responsibilities*

**Role**

Under physician supervision, coordinates the care of adult patients admitted to the cardiac surgery service. Specifically, the role requires the clinician to:

- Manage pre- and post-cardiac surgery patients in a telemetry/step-down unit setting.

- Perform, order, and interpret advanced diagnostic and therapeutic tasks associated with patients undergoing cardiac surgery or procedures including but not limited to: coronary artery bypass surgery, valve replacement or repair, aortic aneurysm repair, myectomy, transcatheter aortic valve replacement (TAVR), heart transplantation, total artificial heart, and left ventricular assist device (LVAD) placement and revision.

- Complete and document detailed histories and physical exams; present pertinent data to the faculty.

- Order and interpret diagnostic lab tests, radiographic procedures, and clinical studies.

- Educate patients and their families on disease management, information and details regarding surgical procedures, post-operative instructions, and preventive care.

- Perform limited diagnostic, therapeutic, and minor surgical procedures such as removing temporary pacing wires, removing chest tubes, minor chest wound debridement, incision and drainage, placing wound vacs, and placing NG tubes.

- Discuss surgical procedures, obtain consent, and facilitate both necessary order entry but also effective interpretation of pre-operative testing.

- Maintain continuity of care throughout the Cardiovascular Center; provide team members of oncoming shift with thorough and accurate hand-offs.

- Confer with attending physicians and communicate with other care providers/consultants to coordinate clinical care, escalating care as needed.

- Maintain accurate documentation regarding patient status, evaluations, and treatment.

- Streamline the patient transfer process between levels of care, including writing discharge orders and communicating specific patient needs to team members.

- Participate in peer evaluations and quality-assurance activities, support research projects and any other initiative deemed necessary and in the best interest of patient care.

- Perform other related duties as required.

- Maintain an in-depth knowledge of medical principles, practices, standards, and techniques in accordance with Michigan Medicine policies and procedures, Medical Staff Bylaws, and State and Federal laws/regulations.

Postdoctoral Fellowship in Neuroimmunology

We are seeking a motivated and talented candidate with a strong background in neuroimmunology or neuroscience for a postdoctoral fellowship in the allergy and immunology laboratory of Charles Schuler at the University of Michigan within the Mary H. Weiser Food Allergy Center. Our laboratory focuses on understanding the effector phase of anaphylaxis using a combination of in vitro and in vivo modeling, human anaphylaxis tissue sampling, and multi-omics. An exciting opportunity has been created for an experienced researcher to join the Alumkal Laboratory (https://alumkal.lab.medicine.umich.edu/) at the U of M Division of Heme-Onc and the Rogel Cancer Center in Ann Arbor, MI. This individual will join as a post-doctoral researcher and work directly with Dr. Joshi Alumkal, Leader of the U of M Prostate/Genitourinary Oncology Cancer Section. He/she will be an integral member of research team whose focus is epigenetics and drug resistance in prostate cancer.

Our laboratory focuses on identifying mechanisms by which key chromatin modifying enzymes and chromatin readers drive transcription of pathways that promote treatment resistance. We use genomic/epigenomic studies in prostate cancer clinical samples and prostate cancer cell line model systems and functional studies to understand this process. Our goal is to develop new, targeted treatment strategies for men with advanced prostate cancer.

The position is in a collaborative, interdisciplinary, and highly translational environment in the U of M Division of Heme-Onc and the Rogel Cancer Center in the U of M School of Medicine. Highly-motivated candidates with expertise in molecular biology, chromatin, and genomics who are interested in a career in oncology basic/translational research will be most competitive for this position.

We are seeking a Postdoctoral Scientist to join the laboratory of Dr. Jay Brito Querido in the Department of Biological Chemistry at the University of Michigan Medical School. The lab uses cryo-electron microscopy and biochemical approaches to investigate the regulation of mRNA translation initiation and its implications for human health and disease.

Responsibilities*

The primary responsibility of the Postdoctoral Scientist will be to lead research focused on understanding the mechanism of mRNA translation in apicomplexan parasites. The successful candidate will apply a range of structural and biochemical approaches, including single-particle cryo-electron microscopy (cryoEM) and cryo-electron tomography (cryoET), to dissect the mechanisms of translation initiation and its regulation in these organisms. This position offers access to state-of-the-art instrumentation available through the Life Sciences Institute and the Department of Biological Chemistry, including the Stellaris 5 Cryo-Confocal Microscope, Aquilos 2 cryo-FIB, and Titan Krios G4i.

Collaborate with physicians in providing diagnostic and therapeutic services for Cross-sectional radiology.

Responsibilities*

**Primary Goals**

- Coordinate activities of the cross-sectional interventional division, approval of all interventional cases, pre-procedure, during procedure, and post procedure patient care, and maintenance of joint CT, MRI and ultrasound interventional procedure schedules.

- Provide telephone triage and case evaluation for referring services, patients, and families, including screening for appropriateness of procedure.

- Assist/first assist physician in all interventional procedures, including intraoperative ablations. May involve suturing catheters, and skin/wound closure.

- Patient evaluation and consent prior to interventional procedures- biopsies, fluid aspirations, drain placements, ablation, thrombin injections, botulism toxin injection, or other procedures.

- Performing a history and physical examination on patients prior to procedures or on a follow up basis as needed.

- Independently perform image-guided procedures such as but not limited to: fluid aspirations, abdominal/pelvic drain placement or removal, fine-needle and core abdominal/pelvic biopsies, thrombin injections, Botox injections, or other procedures as directed by physician.

- Perform a patient assessment prior to administration of conscious sedation.

- Prep and drape patients and assist with setup for procedures.

- Write pre and post procedure notes and orders on all patients.

- Responsible for patient education of outpatient care of abdominal/pelvic drains. This may involve patients, family members or other caregivers.

**Secondary Goals**

- Design appropriate data collection forms, databases, and keeping case records to be used with various research projects. Working closely with principle investigator is required.

Responsibilities*

Responsibilities*

**Overnight testing procedures ** (also applies to PSGs performed during the day for night shift workers).

- Review existing information in patient record.

- Examine orders and protocols for study.

- Explain test procedures to patients.

- Recognize chief sleep/wake complaint.

- Communicate with ordering physician or Sleep Lab medical staff to clarify unclear or inappropriate orders and communicate information about the patients status.

- Calibrate and adjust equipment to ensure it is in proper working condition.

- Measure and apply appropriate EEG electrodes using the International 10-20 system.

- Apply appropriate EKG (heart), EMG (leg and chin muscles) and EOG (eye movement) monitoring electrodes.

- Apply and securely attach recording transducers, thermocouples, to measure airflow, respiratory effort, apply oximetry probes and CO2 monitors (End Tidal and Transcutaneous).

- Perform physiological calibrations to verify proper functioning of equipment.

- Monitor the PSG and note and correct equipment malfunctions.

- Monitor and change patients body position as needed to obtain the required sleep/wake data.

- End the PSG and wake the patient and carefully remove recording equipment.

- Score the polysomnogram and generate a report summarizing sleep\wake data and physiological events.

- Independently perform specialty studies.

**Patient Equipment and Safety**

- Recognize and respond appropriately to patients medical problems and physiological events, especially cardiac dysrhythmias, respiratory events, and seizures.

- Safely lift and move patient without harm to patient or self.

- Ensure safety and welfare of all patients

- Comply with Universal Infection Control procedures.

- Properly disinfect and sterilize appropriate equipment, electrodes, CPAP (Continuous -Positive Airway Pressure) masks.

- Appropriately handles hazardous materials such as acetone or collodion.

- You will precisely apply electrodes and perform biocalibrations.

- You will work with a variety of patients including adult and pediatric populations.

- You will also set up top-tier equipment and troubleshoot common issues

**RELATED DUTIES**

- Administers oxygen, continuous and BI-level positive airway pressure in accordance with established protocols.

- Understands indications, contraindications, and adverse effects of CPAP, BI-level PAP and oxygen administration.

- Independently performs special procedures including esophageal pressure monitoring, infant/pediatric polysomnography, ambulatory monitoring, and portable (in patient) polysomnography.

- Perform and score PSGs for evaluation of parasomnias and seizures, and prepare report including other clinical events related to parasomnias and seizures.

- Conduct MSLT's and score MSLTs according to established guidelines

- Prepare report of MSLT, including number and time of naps, latency from sleep to onset of REM for each nap, and mean sleep latency.

- Evaluate infant/pediatric patients, and properly perform PSGs for evaluation of sleep apnea, parasomnias and seizures.

- Perform sleep research protocols.

- Assist attending physician in orientation of new resident physicians to the service and assist in maintaining continuity of care throughout the Cardiovascular center.

- Confer with attending physicians and communicate with other care providers/consultants to coordinate clinical care. Maintain accurate documentation regarding patient status, evaluations, and treatment.

- Streamline the patient transfer process between levels of care, including writing discharge orders and communicating specific patient needs to team members.

- Participate in quality assurance activities, peer evaluations and support research initiatives involving CVICU and cardiac surgery patients.

- Comply with established standards for quality, patient safety and re-imbursement.

- Perform other related duties and initiatives as deemed necessary in the best interests of patient care.

- Utilize new improvements and/or technologies that relate to job assignment.

Note: Position is night/day rotator with the majority of shifts being on nights. Holiday and weekend rotation required, weekend requirement could be as much as 50% or every other.

Required Qualifications*

- Current licensure to practice as a Registered Nurse and Nurse Practitioner specialty certification in the State of Michigan.

- Current specialty certification to practice as an Adult-Gerontology Acute Care/Primary Care Nurse Practitioner, and/or Family Nurse Practitioner with 2 or more years of ICU experience caring for critical care patients.

- Graduate of an accredited Nurse Practitioner program.

- Certification as a Nurse Practitioner recognized by the National Council of State Boards of Nursing (NCSBN).

- Recent clinical ICU experience in the last 5 years caring for acutely ill patients with diseases common in Cardiac and Thoracic Surgery.

- Current DEA registration required

- ACLS required (separate AHA approved BLS also required unless ACLS was completed through the UMHS Simulation Center).

- Current license to practice as a Physician Assistant in the State of Michigan with 2 or more years of ICU experience caring for critical care patients.

- Satisfactory completion of a Physician Assistant program accredited by Accreditation Review Commission on Education for the Physician Assistant (ARC-PA) or one of its predecessor agencies, CAHEA or CAAHEP.

- Certification by the National Commission on Certification for Physician Assistants (NCCPA).

- Recent clinical ICU experience in the last 5 years caring for acutely ill patients with diseases common in Cardiac and Thoracic Surgery.

- State of Michigan Controlled Substance License Required

- Current DEA registration required

- ACLS required (separate AHA approved BLS also required unless ACLS was completed through the UMHS Simulation Center).

**Job Summary**

The U.P. Scholars Program is a cohort-based scholarship program that provides substantial need-based scholarships for students from limited-income backgrounds from the Upper Peninsula of Michigan. Our goal is to increase access and success for students from these underrepresented rural communities. The U.P. Scholars Program Coordinator plays a key role in advancing the mission of the U.P. Scholars Program, providing our signature high-touch student support and tailored resources to help our students have a healthy transition into college and thrive here on campus. Built on a foundation of support, community, and success, the program fosters academic, social, and leadership growth by creating a "home away from home" for scholars and connecting them with the campus community.

Under the supervision of the U.P. Scholars Program Manager, the U.P. Scholars Program Coordinator is responsible for organizing and delivering student-focused programming and leadership initiatives, supporting communication and administrative processes, and providing one-on-one coaching to help scholars thrive academically and personally. In partnership with students, campus partners, and staff, this position helps ensure that the U.P. Scholars' experience reflects the program's values and goals. Day-to-day work includes a mix of event planning, one-on-one coaching meetings with students, collaboration with campus partners, and hands-on coordination of program logistics. This role is well-suited for someone who enjoys working closely with students, building community, and balancing coordination work with direct student support.

This is a term-limited appointment through July 2029 with the possibility of renewal contingent on your satisfactory performance and conduct, the availability of work, and continued funding.

Responsibilities*

**Student Programming & Events (30%)**

- Plan and host all U.P. Scholars student programming and events, including community socials, service opportunities, and professional development events.

- Manage approximately 2-3 events per month, totaling 16-20 events annually.

- Collaborate with campus partners to design programs that help students succeed academically, build community, and develop as leaders.

- Collect and analyze student feedback to shape future programming.

- Track participation and engagement data and contribute to annual reports and program assessment efforts.

**Student Leadership Initiatives (30%)**

- Peer Mentor Program

- Coordinate all aspects of the Peer Mentor Program, including:

- Recruitment, selection, and training of peer mentors

- Matching mentors with new incoming first-year and transfer scholars

- Providing ongoing monthly support, guidance, and oversight to mentors

- Manage budget for the Peer Mentor Program

- Track monthly engagement, collect and analyze student feedback for continual program improvement.

- Student Advisory Board

- Plan and facilitate the annual Student Advisory Board retreat.

- Coordinate and lead monthly Student Advisory Board meetings to ensure student perspectives shape program planning and decisions.

- Manage recruitment, selection, and onboarding of new board members.

- Oversee the expansion of the board through the creation and support of sub-committees to enhance student leadership opportunities.

**Administrative Support (15%)**

- Support U.P. Scholars in understanding scholarship requirements and making steady progress toward meeting them.

- Manage and maintain the U.P. Scholars Canvas course.

- Conduct annual reviews of student compliance with scholarship requirements and support follow-up as needed.

- Provide general administrative and project support for the team, including financial reconciliation and budget management.

**Student Communications (10%)**

- Oversee student communications, including:

- Manage student newsletter(s)

- GroupMe channels

- U.P. Scholars Social Media accounts

- Ensure communications are clear, timely, and useful to students.

**Student Coaching & Support (10%)**

- Conduct one-on-one coaching appointments with U.P. Scholars focused on goal-setting, engagement, and navigating the university experience.

- Identify trends or emerging student needs and communicate them to the Program Manager.

**Recruitment & Selection (5%)**

- Assist the U.P. Scholars Program Manager with the annual recruitment and selection process for incoming scholars.

- Support application review, evaluation, and selection logistics as needed.

Required Qualifications*

- Bachelor's degree or equivalent combination of education and relevant experience.

- At least two years of experience supporting college students through programming, advising, coaching, or student services.

- Experience in event planning and event management, as well as coordinating multiple programs or events at the same time.

- Strong organizational, communication, and interpersonal skills.

- Experience working with communications tools (e.g., newsletters, learning management systems, group messaging platforms).

- Experience using participation data, student feedback, or assessment results to strengthen programs.

- Willingness to work occasional evenings or weekends to support student programming.

Desired Qualifications*

- Experience coordinating peer mentoring or student leadership programs.

- Knowledge of and/or previous experience working in Michigan's Upper Peninsula.

- Knowledge of and/or previous experience working with rural and/or limited-income and/or first-generation college students.

- Familiarity with UM-LSA curricula, programs, policies, campus resources, contacts, and offices that provide assistance/support services for undergraduate students.
