**Job Summary**

An exciting opportunity has been created for an experienced researcher to join the Alumkal Laboratory (https://alumkal.lab.medicine.umich.edu/) at the U of M Division of Heme-Onc and the Rogel Cancer Center in Ann Arbor, MI. This individual will join as a post-doctoral researcher and work directly with Dr. Joshi Alumkal, Leader of the U of M Prostate/Genitourinary Oncology Cancer Section. He/she will be an integral member of research team whose focus is epigenetics and drug resistance in prostate cancer.

Our laboratory focuses on identifying mechanisms by which key chromatin modifying enzymes and chromatin readers drive transcription of pathways that promote treatment resistance. We use genomic/epigenomic studies in prostate cancer clinical samples and prostate cancer cell line model systems and functional studies to understand this process. Our goal is to develop new, targeted treatment strategies for men with advanced prostate cancer.

The position is in a collaborative, interdisciplinary, and highly translational environment in the U of M Division of Heme-Onc and the Rogel Cancer Center in the U of M School of Medicine. Highly-motivated candidates with expertise in molecular biology, chromatin, and genomics who are interested in a career in oncology basic/translational research will be most competitive for this position.

The individual will be responsible for leading a collaborative research project focused on prostate cancer epigenetics and drug resistance. Expertise with molecular biology, biochemistry, and genomics will be required for this project. Additional responsibilities include, but are not limited to: maintaining a high level of professional expertise in the field; supervising and providing guidance and mentorship to other scientists within the laboratory; designing and directing or executing experiments; and establishing laboratory procedures and systems that enforce and maintain a high level of organization in the lab. We are seeking a Postdoctoral Scientist to join the laboratory of Dr. Jay Brito Querido in the Department of Biological Chemistry at the University of Michigan Medical School. The lab uses cryo-electron microscopy and biochemical approaches to investigate the regulation of mRNA translation initiation and its implications for human health and disease.

Responsibilities*

The primary responsibility of the Postdoctoral Scientist will be to lead research focused on understanding the mechanism of mRNA translation in apicomplexan parasites. The successful candidate will apply a range of structural and biochemical approaches, including single-particle cryo-electron microscopy (cryoEM) and cryo-electron tomography (cryoET), to dissect the mechanisms of translation initiation and its regulation in these organisms. This position offers access to state-of-the-art instrumentation available through the Life Sciences Institute and the Department of Biological Chemistry, including the Stellaris 5 Cryo-Confocal Microscope, Aquilos 2 cryo-FIB, and Titan Krios G4i.

The candidate will be expected to engage actively in lab seminars and discussions, contribute to the direction of their own project and to other ongoing work in the group, assist in the training of lab members, and participate in the preparation of research publications. Responsibilities*

**Primary Goals**

- Coordinate activities of the cross-sectional interventional division, approval of all interventional cases, pre-procedure, during procedure, and post procedure patient care, and maintenance of joint CT, MRI and ultrasound interventional procedure schedules.

- Provide telephone triage and case evaluation for referring services, patients, and families, including screening for appropriateness of procedure.

The Advanced Practice Professional (APP) will participate in all aspects of inpatient care for patients admitted to the colorectal surgery service. They may sporadically participate in outpatient clinic follow-up of patients after discharge. **Job Summary**

The Section of General Surgery and the Division of Colorectal Surgery at Michigan Medicine are seeking a qualified Physician Assistant (PA) or Nurse Practitioner (NP) to join our team. The PAs and NPs support the faculty and resident teams to provide patient care for adult general surgery patients. This is a great opportunity for motivated professionals to provide patient care through diagnosis and treatment of surgical patients across a broad spectrum within Michigan Medicine.

Responsibilities*

The Advanced Practice Professional (APP) will participate in all aspects of inpatient care for patients admitted to the colorectal surgery service. They may sporadically participate in outpatient clinic follow-up of patients after discharge. This position will also offer the opportunity to collaborate with surgeons, nurses, and residents in quality assurance and performance improvement initiatives. These job duties may be modified depending on the needs of the Section of General Surgery and the Division of Colorectal Surgery.

**Specific Responsibilities Include But Are Not Limited To**

- Inpatient rounding and order entry

- Order and interpret diagnostic tests

- Coordinate with consulting teams

- Maintain complete documentation of patient care

- Serve as first contact for patient care, respond to questions from nursing and other healthcare professionals via EMR secure chat, page, and phone

- Lead daily multidisciplinary rounds with case managers, pharmacists, social workers, and others

- Order and prescribe medications in accordance with statutes, rules and regulations of the State of Michigan

- Wound/ostomy care

- Maintenance, troubleshooting, and removal of nasogastric tubes and surgical drains

- Educate and counsel patient and family members on disease pathophysiology, management, and trajectory

- Manage peri-procedural risk assessments and medication management recommendations for all procedures and surgeries

Required Qualifications*

**Required Qualifications (PA)**

-  Satisfactory completion of a Physician Assistant program accredited by Accreditation Review Commission on Education for the Physician Assistant (ARC-PA) or one of its predecessor agencies, CAHEA or CAAHEP.

Responsibilities*

**Overnight testing procedures ** (also applies to PSGs performed during the day for night shift workers).

- Review existing information in patient record.

- Examine orders and protocols for study.

- Explain test procedures to patients.

- Recognize chief sleep/wake complaint.

- Communicate with ordering physician or Sleep Lab medical staff to clarify unclear or inappropriate orders and communicate information about the patients status.

- Calibrate and adjust equipment to ensure it is in proper working condition.

- Measure and apply appropriate EEG electrodes using the International 10-20 system.

- Apply appropriate EKG (heart), EMG (leg and chin muscles) and EOG (eye movement) monitoring electrodes.

- Apply and securely attach recording transducers, thermocouples, to measure airflow, respiratory effort, apply oximetry probes and CO2 monitors (End Tidal and Transcutaneous).

- Perform physiological calibrations to verify proper functioning of equipment.

- Monitor the PSG and note and correct equipment malfunctions.

- Monitor and change patients body position as needed to obtain the required sleep/wake data.

- End the PSG and wake the patient and carefully remove recording equipment.

- Score the polysomnogram and generate a report summarizing sleep\wake data and physiological events.

- Independently perform specialty studies.

**Patient Equipment and Safety**

- Recognize and respond appropriately to patients medical problems and physiological events, especially cardiac dysrhythmias, respiratory events, and seizures.

- Safely lift and move patient without harm to patient or self.

- Ensure safety and welfare of all patients

- Comply with Universal Infection Control procedures.

- Properly disinfect and sterilize appropriate equipment, electrodes, CPAP (Continuous -Positive Airway Pressure) masks.

- Appropriately handles hazardous materials such as acetone or collodion.

- You will precisely apply electrodes and perform biocalibrations.

- You will work with a variety of patients including adult and pediatric populations.

- You will also set up top-tier equipment and troubleshoot common issues

**RELATED DUTIES**

- Administers oxygen, continuous and BI-level positive airway pressure in accordance with established protocols.

- Understands indications, contraindications, and adverse effects of CPAP, BI-level PAP and oxygen administration.

- Independently performs special procedures including esophageal pressure monitoring, infant/pediatric polysomnography, ambulatory monitoring, and portable (in patient) polysomnography.

- Perform and score PSGs for evaluation of parasomnias and seizures, and prepare report including other clinical events related to parasomnias and seizures.

- Conduct MSLT's and score MSLTs according to established guidelines

- Prepare report of MSLT, including number and time of naps, latency from sleep to onset of REM for each nap, and mean sleep latency.

- Evaluate infant/pediatric patients, and properly perform PSGs for evaluation of sleep apnea, parasomnias and seizures.

- Perform sleep research protocols.

- Perform other duties and lab functions as assigned by supervision

Required Qualifications*

**Polysomnographic Technologist Registered Specific**

- High School graduation with basic coursework or an equivalent combination of education and experience

- Registration as a Polysomnographic Technologist by the Board of Registered Polysomnographic Technologists (BRPT) is necessary. Must maintain registry under BRPT by completing necessary CEUs, as a Registered Polysomnographic Technologist.

- BLS Certification

- This classification requires Primary Source Verification.

**Graduate (Non-Certified) Polysomnographic Technician Specific**

- High school diploma

- BLS Certification.

- Completion of 4 modules of an A-STEP, Accredited Sleep Technologist Education Program.

OR

- Enrollment or completion of a CAAHEP or CoARC-accredited polysomnography education program

**Role**

Under physician supervision, coordinates care of acutely ill post-surgical Adult/Late Adult patients admitted to the Cardiac Surgery Service intensive care setting. Specifically, role requires clinician to:

- Perform advanced diagnostic and therapeutic tasks associated with patients undergoing Cardiac, Vascular and Thoracic procedures, including heart and lung transplantation and ventricular assist devices.

- Collect detailed histories and physicals and present pertinent data to the medical staff.

- Collect and interpret reports from diagnostic lab tests, radiographic procedures, and clinical studies.

- Order tests and prescribe medications.

- Perform various diagnostic, therapeutic, and minor procedures, based on privileges.

- Assist attending physician in orientation of new resident physicians to the service and assist in maintaining continuity of care throughout the Cardiovascular center.

- Confer with attending physicians and communicate with other care providers/consultants to coordinate clinical care. Maintain accurate documentation regarding patient status, evaluations, and treatment.

- Streamline the patient transfer process between levels of care, including writing discharge orders and communicating specific patient needs to team members.

- Participate in quality assurance activities, peer evaluations and support research initiatives involving CVICU and cardiac surgery patients.

- Comply with established standards for quality, patient safety and re-imbursement.

- Perform other related duties and initiatives as deemed necessary in the best interests of patient care.

- Utilize new improvements and/or technologies that relate to job assignment.
